Are there any steel nibs from other Lamy pens that will fit on a Lamy 2000?

Not that I'm aware, but if there were steel nibs designed to fit the Lamy 2000, you'd still be expected to pay a premium for them just because they're different, rarer and designed for purpose; as opposed to just using what's "standard" because you're attracted either by the lower price (of the more common nib product range), or the reusability of such nibs in other Lamy pen models, or both.

So, I think you need to ask yourself, why are you asking that question?

If it isn't a case of, "I prefer steel to gold as a (nib) material, and I prefer the Lamy 2000 (perhaps because I already own one) to any other Lamy model, so I'm prepared to pay whatever price someone who is willing to accommodate will ask," then at least for me it isn't a question worth pondering for an answer.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

The vintage Lamy 26P uses the same nib design as the Lamy 2000 and the earlier hooded steel nib pens like the Ratio, Special, 25P, 66P, 67P, 68, 69, and flat-ended 27 and 99 models. All nibs are interchangeable within these models. The 27 and 99 pens with rounded ends use a different nib style.

You can also find 14k yellow gold nibs in some of these vintage models, which look really nice on a Lamy 2000.

To find these nibs you'll have to search places like ebay and Martini auctions.

Brilliant info indeed! Thanks for posting carlos.q :)

And yes, I can vouch for that bit about a 14k yellow gold nib looking great in a L2K. I swapped an OF nib from a broken Lamy 99 (flat ends) to a L2K and it stands out in a really nice way.

I do have a vintage OM nib (bought alone so I don't know from which pen this comes originally) and it is a wonderful nib. Not a nail as the modern nibs but softer. Offering a little bit of line variation without any effort. And it looks good in the L2K.

The reason I asked is that the last two Lamy 2000s I had I had problems with the nibs getting out of nib alignment repeatedly. This last time the nib appears to have become bent, probably during my attempts to align the tines. I was thinking I needed to have a nibmeister fix the nib. They suggested this can happen if you rotate the pen. My nib is extra fine. Interestingly I noticed that my L2K writes more smoothly if held at a much higher angle to the paper than I am used to holding a pen. I got the EF nib realigned but it is only smooth at the higher angle to the paper. The nib looks funny too, as if it's a bit bent. So, that is where it is.

I like the Lamy 2000 pen. The feel of the macrolon and the filling action are very, very nice. I am not sure about the nib supplied with the pen. Do any of you think the pen needs to be held at a high angle to the paper, or would you suspect I have ruined the nib?

The L2K is my favorite pen (I have 5 ...) and I am not writing at a high angle.

I had never problems with the nibs - not the new ones and not the old stock I own.

Perhaps you are writing with a little bit to much pressure?

Thanks for your reply. I cautiously worked on aligning the nib and

improved it so it works without being held high.

It helps to know it needn't be held at a high angle.

I am still looking for and finding the steel and gold nibs listed earlier that fit in the Lamy 2000. The EF gold nib in the pen seems to have been weakened by the fingernail adjustments I made to try to align the tines. It appears to need a really light touch to keep from throwing it out of alignment. Resetting the situation with another nib would probably be best.

You can buy proper 'replacement' 14K gold nibs for the Lamy 2000 without looking on eBay, etc. for listings by random sellers, if resetting the situation (as close as possible) to factory condition is what you desire. Appelboom and La Couronne du Comte, among other retailers, sell them.

Thanks for this. The prices are less than nibs for Pelikans and other nice pen's nibs I have replaced. The EF nib that cane with the pen, bought new, seems flimsy and has always gotten out of alignment easily. If I buy a current Lamy nib it will be at least a fine or medium. The EF nibs on all my Safaris are stronger.

  • 4 years later...

Thanks for this old thread - had no idea there were other nibs I could put into a Lamy 2000. I have two and 1 was a fixer upper I got and while my medium nib is 'mostly' straight from when I got the damaged one for a severe discount it is far too medium - more like broad for my tastes.  I will keep my eye out for a Lamy 99 or 27 or those other models listed.

A replacement Lamy 2000 nib would be more than I paid for my actual whole pen - if I can find a damaged 99 etc. I'm certain I can get a nice gold toned gold nib for a lower price!

success and so quick - found an inexpensive Lamy 99 with a broken section that is now in the mail - now we currently have a postal strike but hopefully it arrives soon and I can give the nib swap a try!!! If this works it will be a 14k nib replacement for 1/3 of the price or less - $50 with shipping!!

New problem - I've been searching these old Lamy models - and some look quite nice.....must resist!!!!
