Hello,

 

I saw this new knock-off Mont Blanc 1912 "Safety" pen. Looks to be a variation on the similar Hero knock-off - but without the cap band and available in red!

Has anyone got any information on this pen?

 

I'm particularly interested in knowing whether the metal appointments are brass and what the barrel is made of - as well as more generally "is it any good as a pen".

 

Its obviously quite expensive, particularly compared to the Hero version which comes with a 'gold' nib.

Should we really be supporting this sort of thing? It’s straight theft of intellectual property. Whether this is legal in China or not, it is surely still wrong.

The whole site is a Mont Blanc clone factory! Basically a theft ring! I wouldn't buy anything from them. Besides they may just keep your money!

That's like 100% incorrect on so many levels.

 

It's outrageously rare to get scammed on aliexpress.

 

The site is one of the biggest retail vendors on earth. They sell an absolutely obscenely gigantic variety of things.

 

The pen itself is pushing knockoff more than the hero, that's for sure. The nib in particular is really bad.

 

The hero has been around long enough that I'd wager it isn't IP theft. It has enough of its own design features to call into question that it's just another safety pen design.

 

This one however mimics the nib, the clip, the clip MOUNT, the white cap jewel, everything.

I'm borrowing this from Cyclohexene that was posted in another topic. It makes me laugh & seems fitting here too.

 

Let's start playing the knock-off/homage bingo:

4: the factory making these probably also make the fake MBs

10: they are not infringing any copyright laws
11: the design is old enough for the protection to expire and it's now public domain
12: I would never give my money to fake sellers

AliExpress is not a retail vendor, any more than eBay is a retail vendor. It's not like Amazon at all.

The orange with silver clip is what I have.  I paid a hefty $3.29 for each pen in a bundle of eight Chinese pens.  But I think this pen is from the Philippines, as that is where Wakaka seems to be.  The pen writes just fine and operates well so far.  I just inked it today with some Sailor ink.  Interesting pen.  But I would be very surprised if Montblanc wasn't doing something about this.  Doesn't feel right.
