Montblanc Carrera Help

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have a Carrera with an EF nib that I absolutely love using, unfortunately the grip has a crack near the nib and I was advised by many of the recommended "pen mechanics" on this site that it cannot be repaired. I found a nos grip for the pen but I am lost as to how to remove and replace the grip. Has anybody done this before?

Thank you,

You don't know what you need until you realise you haven't got it.

Hi Rafiki76,

One of the key advantages of the MB Carrera over equivalent student pens is that it can be easily disassembled for repair. Without a photo of the pen, it's hard to judge how to repair it. Most cracks can be repaired. Check out my post about the repair I did on a broken Carrera feed. If you can post some pictures, I'd be happy to make suggestions about how to repair the crack.

Sadly, this is a common problem with old plastics from the 70s and the tend to develop hairline cracks around. Jb. The section (grip) can be unscrewed, from the reat of the body. The tricky part is getting the nib and the feed out of it. I’d recommend soaking it in water and then pushing the nib back into the section. Use your fingers and nails. Once the nib, section and small round section seal are out you can put thyme into a new section that can be screwed back into the body and filled with ink. The hardest part is the one I haven’t mentioned yet: finding a good used replacement section (grip) without any cracks.
