thanks for the pics, Hari!

is it really 14k? or plated?

how do you judge the performance? curious...

It has been sold to me as solid 14k gold nib and I was charged accordingly. I dont have ready access to a karat meter but I am pretty sure the nib will check out ok.

It is supposed to be a BB. It writes really well but the line width is slightly narrower than what I had expected of a BB.

Hope this helps.

thank you Hari, the FPN site being down sort of suspended everything...

(nice to see everyone back!)

It's interesting as I'd really never seen an Indian gold nib, who makes them?

Doesn't Ambitious also make 14k gold nibs? I was wondering if Kanwrite's gold nib is worth the cost.

So far all their nibs have worked really well.

Ambitious nibs are impossible to buy new as single nib or unit, they except only bulk from what I understand. Now if someone can get you the nib then its different story otherwise its not possible.

Last time I checked (as I was told by few people), and its long time ago, it was at 100+ unit. Can't say about currently but that's what it was. You can also look at some online places which seems to be selling them. Their official online site is stuck in coming soon for 2 years now and the only way to contact is phone or visit (I no longer have the number so sorry for that). You might have some luck visiting them directly.....

Happy hunting.

From my recent experience, the lower limit is 10 pieces. I bought some nibs by directly contacting Mr Atul of Ambitious India not very long ago. You can try contacting them on atulcharla@ambitiousindia.com and abhishekcharla@ambitiousindia.com.

Regards,

Biswa

Looks like my info was too old..lol.

Well 10 nibs are quite approachable for most, I wanted to try one since a while but was not able to due to bulk case back then, well 10 are still alot for me who has only 10 reasonable pens to start with, still might give them a shot this year.

Thanks for contact info helps a bunch.

What is the size of the Bock nib in the green pen? Is it #40mm?

It looks more proportionate than the Schmidt nib...

Yes. It’s the bock no 8 called 380. The bare nib is nearly 40mm from tip to heel. But this nib sits over an 8 mm feed.

I am posting some images of my guider jumbo, in orange ebonite. The stock nib was Guider, which was okay. I was exploring some nib-swap with #35 nib from a Click pen, and I thought this nib wrote very well on this pen and looked more proportionate to the size of the pen. I am happy with this pen. The only reason I am not able to use it is that it is too long to be clipped to shirt pocket. I have requested Mr. Rao to make a short-jumbo pen for me with 5.5 inches length (instead of slightly >6 inches for Jumbo), and he has kindly accomodated my request. Eagerly waiting for the short-jumbo.

Lovely pen. Lovely color. Thanks for sharing. Your clip is also different. I think Jai also has a guider with a clip like this.
Mr Rao loves to accommodate his customers, a thorough gentleman. Do share pics when you get it.

I think this is an older clip.

I was keen on acquiring this model, but I was not sure whether I would like it.. since i had not used a jumbo pen before.. I was hesitating because of the cost also..  I told this to Mr. Rao (that I am hesitating because of the cost, and whether i will like it or not..).

Mr. Rao promptly offered me to send some old, slightly defective pens from his workshop, that will fit in my budget... These pens were slightly defective pens that were discarded, which I bought from him at a very decent price... This particular pen had a black spot on the cap - Mr. Rao fixed the clip exactly over the spot and concealed it from view.... So it is as good as new...

When you write with a jumbo pen with a large nib (eg. 40 mm), do you face strain in your wrist?

Today I was at Gem and Co, talking to Mr. Pratap. I asked for any jumbo pen with 40 mm nib. He said that although it looks better and proportionate, it is not advisable, as it puts strain on wrist. He said only people with specific needs (eg. very large hands or different holding style) will find it comfortable.

What has been your experience?

Ya, it is a nice pen. The last drop of ink got over today without any burping.

Larger the nib shallower you hold it. Your grip will naturally adjust. In the Indian context I have used a Deccan Masterpiece for several years at a stretch. The pen comes pre fitted with the Ambitious no 40 nib. It’s a lovely pen. large.A73DF937-CAB2-4CE9-83AC-41785E76DF25.jpeg.bbe64953bc35f2b7e1958cfae8cf77c5.jpeg

'Shallower' means away from the nib?
