These are also very nice, I like blue one a lot, does it also has green tint in bright light, I saw one pen which had that and it looked very interesting.

thank you. The blue can be mistaken for black or very dark green in low light. It is a mystery color.

I love that green one, Hari. It has real character.

My favourite is a red transparent Zimbo. I love it to bits. But I don't have a proper herd yet.

I like your nibs too! Definitely a cut above the normal Guider pen.

Thank you. My herd started off as just two white jumbos, the colored ebonite ones are the result of this lockdown and idle conversations with pen maker friends.

Guider now offers Schmidt nib units as an off the shelf upgrade option. However he can install any nib unit that you desire. If you could somehow send him the nib unit, they work the old school way and need the nib unit. The Bock job I did at my end, I have sent him pics of the Bock 380 installed on his pen, I hope he offers it as an option but the problem is cost, the nib unit costs exactly 8 times of what I paid for the stock pen.

Thank you SN. I added one more color yesterday. The GJ Nilgai (blue bull) ebonite. It is a stealthy pen. Looks black in normal light.

Thanks for the comparison pic. In Mr. Rao's pics the Nilgai colour doesn't look anything like this but then neither does the tota. Your pic's colour seems truer to me. I have a similarly deceptive Parker Victory that is dark teal/blue that looks like black.

Thanks for this bit of information sir. I got hold of some vintage blanks and wanted to give them to Mr. Rao for some custom pens. It would be great if he can fit custom nib units as well!

Between Schmidt nib unit and Bock nib unit, what is the main difference? Any reason why people prefer one or the other?

Between Schmidt nib unit and Bock nib unit, what is the main difference? Any reason why people prefer one or the other?

They are different companies. Bock is the most famous and a nib specialist with their factory at Heidelberg which people have visited.

Schmidt makes all types of components for writing instruments and is the main supplier of quality converters. Mainly if you ask me, Schmidt is cheaper in cost than bock. Has a superb feeder, the nibs write very well and I actually prefer Schmidt for these reasons for steel nibs. But they offer only limited nib width variety. Bock offers a huge variety of tips, finishes, nib materials and is slightly costlier than the competition. The bock in this thread is actually larger than the largest Schmidt. It is the so called no 8 and is 18k gold.

So if one wants a size 8 nib, there is no option in Schmidt.

There is also a third German company called JoWo. Then we have the Indian Kanpur Writers and Ambitious.

these pics are taken under my table lamp. I need to take some daylight pics but thats possible only on weekends. I feel the Golconda is not accurate in my pic.

Dont understand the obsession of large pens unless youre arthritic.

Personal taste. I've never understood the obsession with fine and XF nibs. Only use to me is chucking at a dartboard.

I love large pens. They feel great in the hand and with a large broad or OB nib, such fun to write with.

Hari, Great collection! Can you tell me a bit more about the Brahmam-Deccan? Its very unique looking for an Indian ebonite.

Is it a body made by Brahmam (Bezavada?) bought from Deccan pen store and fitted with a Deccan 14k nib (Aurora look made by kanwrite?) Are the cap bands gold (14k?) too?

Hi nice to hear from you. The pen is around 12 years old in my possession. You can read a bit about it here.

Your guess is right about its place of origin. Vintage USA made steel nibs were installed by Deccan when I bought them. The 14k BB nib is a recent upgrade, nib from KW. Same nib as your masterpiece.

Hari, can you please let me know what is the approximate length of the Guider Jumbo pen? Is it a bigger pen than GAMA Supreme? Just curious. Thanks.

Flat-top.

You mean bigger in terms of both length as well as width? Then it must be a really Huge pen.... :)

Ok I pulled out some pens from storage to check. The cigar supreme is nearly identical to the guider jumbo ebonite. The white super jumbo is unmatched.
