Here is my small flock. From the top Pelikan Twist in candy apple, Pelikano, Pelikan Souverain 8xx (I thought is was an 850 but isn’t that with gold?), Souverain 805, 1954 brown tortoise, and my Pelikan Classics Cafe Creme, Smoky Quartz, Cognac, and Moonstone.

The third from the top is a M805, the fourth a M405.

MXX0 = gold trim

MXX5 = silver trim

@carola My brother must have transposed the number when he wrote about it in the note accompanied the pen as a gift.

I made a mistake I didn’t notice until you replied as I know the smaller blue is an M405. Oops. I still have its tag in the pen box. Should have looked closely at my text before posting.

With the recent arrival of the beautiful M640 Niagara Falls my floc counts 9 chicken Pelikans. All nine are in use (in rotation) and all nine are drawing beautiful lines.

Yes, there is a M600 spare nib top left. I switch nibs (from EF to B-stub) between the pens (except the Pelikano2)

One life!

Ah, a very pretty flock, indeed. Thank you for posting. I always enjoy seeing/hearing from fellow M6xx fans, especially one, who like me, for one reason or another, seems to be missing the legendary Pink Pen from the White Pen collection. 😃

That's a nice collection. I prefer the M800 or M1000 size, but I do like the white pens. If only they made some bigger white pens.

These are my Pelikan 140's (so far)

The blue one has a little crack in the cap (as is not uncommon with these pens). Otherwise they are all fine.

That's a nice family photo. 140s are among my favorites.

Yes, the legendary Pink and the Tortouise are missing - and there is no hope to ever get one of them. The M400 Tortouise is only a placeholder for the desired M600.

The pens of the M6XX series fit best possible into my hand. I like the white variants the most and never fear dirt or colorisation from spoiled ink. It feels OK to me that Pelikan gave the M8xx different themes from the M6xx - that's a pragmatic statement, my budget is (almost) safe for no need to buy a M600 Ocean Swirl! ;)

... but ... there seems to be something like a M600 Green swirl ....😲

One life!

Here’s my little “tortoise” family. All  four are vintage celluloid/ebonite 100N & 101N (1937-1939), with pre-WW2 14k nibs:

M, St, EF and O9 (=OF).

Currently the middle two are inked (Edelstein Smoky Quartz and Ruby).

What's been your experience with the cork topped piston on these lovely pens?

These pens are well serviced, cleaned & restored to full functionality. All of them are excellent writers. The piston gasket mechanism is well engineered and cork gaskets when properly prepared and installed work well for years.

Oooh.  I wasn't familiar with the M640 Niagara Falls before this.  Now I want one!  Almost as much as I want the M620 Piccadilly Circus (which is a LOT).

I remember looking at the M600 Pink when they first came out, and thinking that they were a little too heavy for me, and also too expensive.  Now, of course, while my ability to use heavier pens has increased, the M600 Pink is REALLY too expensive.... :wallbash:

Welcome to the club!

The M600 Pink and the M600 Tortoise are the two I missed when they were affordable. Now ... 🥵

PSA: Since the ”Adding To The Flock” thread received a number of posts around specific pen models (not recently acquired), I thought of reminding everyone that such mini-collections can be posted here instead. :)

What a great topic. I don't have a single Pelikan pen at the moment, but this has inspired me to start!

Thank you! And wonderful to hear that! Pelikans are great pens, both as writers and collectible items :)

I fully agree.

I realized the beauty and writing performance of vintage Pelikans when I first took some courage to restore my grandfather’s little red pen (the bottom pen in the picture), which was left forlorn in a drawer once he had passed away. It took me some time, practice and commitment to learn enough to do it - I could not have afforded a failure. It is hard to describe the sensation when it eventually sprung back to life revealing its full beauty and writing pleasure.

🙂

Back then I haven’t imagined that quite soon there would be a flock. Here’s another family photo of the previously posted “tortoise quartet”, uncapped:

And here’s the nib of the little red pen, my first Pelikan.

Pelikan Collectibles lists it as “Pelikan 100N Nib with Special Imprint”:

My point is that some 15 years ago I haven’t had a notion of how much pleasure and insight into writing culture would collecting and repairing forsaken and broken old Pelikan pens give me. It’s like giving them another chance to live…

I wish you good luck, nice discoveries and writing pleasure @Toolattack!

🙂

Gorgeous flock, Stoen, thank you for sharing! I got my first 101n last August and have had it inked since then, I can’t wait to add another one! I agree that there’s nothing like the old vintage nibs and tortoiseshell.
