Best Waterproof Ink Available In India

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am a fan of Camlin inks and have been using it since childhood. Recently I started using Noodler's Heart of darkness and have been loving its permanence. I would like to gift a similar ink to my mom for recording her journals. I am looking for a Permanent ink for that reason. Based on Youtube reviews it looks like Noodlers inks are too expensive on amazon.in and Pilot Black, Camlin "Permanent" Black and Parker Quink are all not permanent or even water proof at all. Are there any ink recommendations that

0. are waterproof?

1. are not too expensive

2. are available in India (preferably online orders)

Thanks in advance.

Pilot blue is available and fairly water resistant

Fount by camlin is another choice.

OK let me help a bit first thing with waterproof ink would be cleaning and this process will became an issue in pigment ink so keep that in mind also need for more frequent cleaning.

For lower price I can vouch for Sheaffer Skrip Black ink. Should survive most water in fact mine survived a full tap water dip, there will be discoloring but the content will be completely legible. Long term is not something I can say but my writings have not shown any fade in 3 years since I use them so they should last. cost is 425 ish on amazon.in

Second will offshoot the budget but you can look at document inks, they are expensive but should last and be proof to most chemicals and water. eg de atramentis document inks. they are expensive.

You can also look at carbon inks by sailor and platinum they are pretty much permanent but be warned they are really really hard to clean completely from pen and you will be cleaning pen quite often. I personally use Platinum Carbon black.

Also black color in general are bit more resistant to water and chemicals then their color counterparts, this is my personal take on inks.

I lack experience with Indian inks apart from Camlin and Chelpark inks so sorry on this front.

I personally would suggest to avoid Rohrer and Klingner inks especially Sallix. It has fading issue (you don't want them on something dear to heart) and I have experienced it first hand even though ink survived water, medicated alcohol, vinegar. I cant say about other companies iron galls though.

Edit-- do tell if you want to see the dip photo and test of sheaffer and platinum inks I have both inked and can do the test for you.

Here you go if you are wondering what water resistance they hold. What I have done is took the writing under tap and opened it. Wiped water with cloth and clicked the photo. Should copy a senario of accidental slipping of glass of water and doing error of wiping it with cloth only to realize the mistake.

Upper one is Sheaffer Skrip black

Down one is platinum carbon ink.

Is pigment-based ink different from India ink?

Pigment ink is a ink type category. India ink is also a type of pigment ink. But it has some binders in it like shellac etc which make it really permanent and unfit for fountain pen use. But suitable for dip pens.

Camlin fount ink, pelikan fount india, sailor nano inks like kiwaguro or Sei boku , platinum pigment inks and carbon ink, montblanc permanent inks, Kohinoor document inks are also pigment inks but FP safe. Still higher care is required and staining danger is there. HTH.

Thanks... What is the higher care that is required when using these inks? (Is it washing the pens when not in use?)

There is that and also the fact that cleaning intervals are increased for instant I have to clean by pen with platinum carbon ink at every 2 weeks and max 3. Also you cannot let the ink stay in pen for a while it might start to clog and once it does its impossible at worst and very hard at best to clean with water and soap (the most mild combination for pen cleaning).

There is also fact that the pen never really gets completely cleaned (ink being truly permanent) and in my case rather then completely cleaning, by removing the nib and feed and using something to (bleep) inside a convertor its not possible to clean some minor residues of inks, I have just dedicated the my daily driver pen for that particular ink.

Still platinum carbon is my favorite black ink despite of headache of caring and constant need to use the pen.

Personally I would suggest using the inks with our Indian pens. They have simple feeders which are easy to clean and if needed replace.

Precautions would include use the pen regularly. Not allow the ink to dry out in the pen( so your pen should be really airtight when capped). Clean the pen thoroughly before putting another ink in it.
