What Model Is This?

Hi everyone.

 

I have a pastel grey Sheaffer and I am trying to determine the model. I think it may be a Touchdown Sovereign but not sure. It has a flat end snorkel which will not retract into the nib currently. Any information would be greatly appreciated!!

A Sovereign has a bandless steel cap but the same nib.

 

A Touchdown has no Snorkel but the models are similar.

When the Snorkel tube will not retract, try unscrewing the section from the barrel a little--maybe 3 or 4 turns--and then screw it back on. This should reseat the spring into the sac protector and allow the tube to fully retract. If this doesn't work, your spring may be rusty or bent a little.

 

If you're adventurous, remove the section completely from the barrel by unscrewing until you can take them apart. Then examine the spring and see if it turns freely in the ring on the sac protector. If necessary, shoot a little graphite--like they sell to lubricate locks--into the ring where the spring seats and try to get it so it turns freely and smoothly.

 

If none of this helps, you may need to send it to a repair person--like the moderator here, or you can google Danny Fudge at The Write Pen.

You have to be careful with Snorkels. If the sac is bad you run the risk of rusting out the spring. That's a $20 US repair/replacement just on its own....
OTOH, I really like my Snorkels. They're nice writers. I just picked up. a low end one a few weeks ago (a Crest) at a Christmas in July sale at a local antiques store for roughly $8.50. Now I'm hoping that there will be a pen show before the end of the year so I can get the pen checked out.
