Are There Any Difficult-To-Obtain/store Exclusive Inks That You Thought Were Totally Worth Seeking Out?

Ahhh, I used to chase unobtaniums but not any more. I realised that a] the chase was part of the fun, and b] Ive learned to make do. . . "Possession is nothing. But absence has breath" . . .

Or... absence makes the heart go fonder... of some other ink....

Hi VivaT,

Art Brown's Manhattan Blue... and Art Brown's. :(

Parker Penman Sapphire USED to be another, but that ink was so lauded and revered, that there are some fairly good replacements available today. (Monteverde Horizon Blue & PR Electric DC Supershow Blue being a couple).

Living in a country in which fountain pen use is rare, anything beyond black or blue basic Pelikan or Lamy inks was exotic, I paid an arm and a leg for my first Iroshizuku while on vacation, which luckily is now more common. With international restrictions on liquids it has again become harder to buy lesser known inks, suck as Takeda Jimuki, as I recently found the hard way: I was given the choice by the shipper once at customs of throwing three inks down the drain, returning them or sending them to someone else.

Is it worth it? I absolutely love staring at my 30 something inks, I wouldn't have 38ish pens without them.

I have chased ink all around the world & I can say I regret none of the hard to find, exclusive or out of production inks I have purchased.

I wanted to see for myself & while some were not as exciting as I had imagined, they were all part of the experience & well worth the trouble to obtain or price paid.

I have perhaps only purchased 6 bottles of ink since the first of this year; the ones I have satisfy me & I am content to enjoy them, without worry about the "next new thing," as I have in the past.

I understand the sentiment. I haven't bought any new ink this year but have been enjoying the inks I already have.

You are far more disciplined and focused than I am, and I sincerely admire (and I suppose envy) that.

If my spreadsheet is accurate, I now have a total of 361 retail bottles of 297 different commercially available inks, and soon it will become 381 bottles of 306 different inks when the not-yet-dispatched orders eventually arrive here. Still, I don't feel satisfied or that I "have enough"; if the opportunity arises to acquire two, three, four or even five more 80ml bottles of Diamine Jalur Gemilang at list price — but without having to pay expressly for international shipping — arises I'd leap at it. And I'd happily try Sailor Ink Studio #123, #143 and #162 on the same terms, even though I suspect I'd feel about as 'lukewarm' (if that!) about those inks, after having used them once, as I do Tomoe River paper.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.
