I received this Sheaffer Junior Balance Ebonized Pearl with an EF nib on Xmas eve. It is a delightful writer, very delicate. large.IMG_1551.jpeg.50b0fab282f4c64c2f6bcaad1d64b9dc.jpeg

Man. You have excellent taste in pens!

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

Agreed.  I should pull out the one Sheaffer Balance Oversized I have -- it was the pen that belonged to my husband's grandfather (although I had to get a replacement cap because the cap on the pen when my mother-in-law gave it to me a few years ago was from HER Eversharp Skyline (I know it had been hers since her name was engraved on the cap...).

Just got this carmine Admiral as a birthday gift to myself to clean up! Waiting on sacs for this and some other pens... While I'm pulling the section to get the old sac off, should the nib and feed be pushed in this far? They're a little off kilter, so I need to adjust them anyway...image.thumb.jpeg.add2e0fa4014c6bfc64101b801cfd00c.jpegimage.thumb.jpeg.022727739df26fc51f67c29277535060.jpegimage.thumb.jpeg.0273ccc882f2111df73c6b5d59873ecb.jpeg

Was it a surprise? Just kidding/ That is an outsandingly beautiful pen. Happy Birthday.

Looks a little deep… perhaps the section got stretched out over time. If you like the way it writes, I’d say leave it alone.

@pianopenpal -- That is a really pretty pen!   Once you get it up an running, please post pix of how it writes.

This old Targa with a 14K gold nib. I think I figured it was from the 90s. The pen guy at my local antique store recommended it, and it has been a pleasure to write with.

All of these showed up today. Some nibs look like replacement nibs, but all of the pens work and the nibs are in good condition. large.IMG_4909.jpeg.21eccda9ea4ac5b3eff766ae1a0330fd.jpeg

Great selection of Sheaffers in this purchase. I'm a big fan of Balance, your Abalone makes me want to have one for myself even more. Congratulations on these gems!

Thank you, @inkstainedruth and @Switala. I’m excited to get to know them. The Ebonized Pearl is my favorite in looks, but the Carmine Jr has a really soft medium nib. They all feel really good in hand.

Received this 1949 Valiant "fat" Touchdown with a Gregg nib earlier this week. First I thought I just had a pen with a scratched section, but randomly stumbled onto a page just now about Gregg pens on Richard Binder's site, and though, heyyy, that mark looks like the scratch on my pen... Learn something new every day! I've replaced the o-ring and am just waiting on a new sac, and we'll be in business!

That's a nice looking pen!  I didn't know that other companies besides Esterbrook made Gregg nibs.  (Boy -- the stuff I learn on here even after over a decade!)

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
