Hi guys! I'd like to share with you a quick video review of the diplomat aero (Steel nib) I made recently! I think this is an amazing pen and just wanted to share my thoughts and the unboxing experience with you guys if you are interested in getting one of your own!

I'd have to say that if you're on the fence about getting one, you should just pull the trigger and get one!

Congrats on your wonderful Aero! That’s of the few pens I regret selling, but the nib simply wasn’t right for me. I will get another one, one day, with an EF nib.

Hey fellow Singaporean! Nice job! While I know that the Aero has received many accolades on the interwebs, I am not a fan.

 

First problem for me is the grip. I am not a fussy person and have MANY pens that have quite unconventional grips. I don't have a problem with the Capless, or the Dialog or even the Visconti Pininfarina Graphite. I can write with these pens for long periods. I don't have problems with metal grips. BUT the taper and finish of the Diplomat grip I find to be very different. It's hard for me to grip the pen confidently. The pen seems to feel like it will slip out of my hand all the time. I just cannot understand it.

 

The second is the gold nib. It's so poorly tuned, dry and uneven. I had to floss and the tune the pen. Seems like Diplomat works miracles with their steel nib but don't know how to tune gold nibs?

It's odd, the colour choices really don't match the sophistication of the pen. I'd certainly buy a second Aero if there was a colour I liked.

I love the Areo design (one of my regrets in life is never to see a rigid airship pass overhead), but I find the nib 'blobby' and wider than one might expect for the grade.

 

What do other owners think?

Hi all,

 

On e*bay I purchased a silver Aero with a fine gold nib. The nib writes well (and reasonably fine) and the metal section has a texture that allows for a firm grip. It is a nice pen.

 

Ace117, I hope you continue to enjoy your Aero pen!

I like the orange one best, and that's the one already bought.

 

I like the champagne and teal shop-exclusive limited editions are both lovely, but sorely tempted by them as I may be, I just can't bring myself to buy at the asking prices, especially from US retailers that don't offer free shipping to Australia past some arbitrary order value threshold.

 

The brown and the black ones are quite nice too.

 

... I find the nib 'blobby' and wider than one might expect for the grade.

 

What do other owners think?

Just wanted to chime in -- I bought an Aero at the big Yafa display table at the DC show earlier this month. I second those who say that Diplomat's steel nibs are amazing. I have a few factory Jowo medium nibs, and the Aero's is significantly smoother and better all around. So whatever they are doing in-house is great! It was also a great deal. The price increased earlier this year to $180 at all the major online retailers, but they were selling them at the show for $135. I pounced on it and don't regret it!
