Parker 51 Collection

Recommended Posts

Organising some of my older images I came across a file containing pictures of some of my Parker collections from back in 2008!

I still have them but having worked overseas they are packed away in storage (I hope!!). I am hoping to collect them within the next few months provided a) they are still there and B) I can actually find them.

Heres a couple of images of a motley line-up of 51s (I will post some images of some Vacumatics in a separate post)

Impressive collection of double jeweled first year Parkers. How long did it take to find these pens?

Thank you - I probably collected these over 2-3 years. That was back around 2007 when they weren't as hard to find as nowadays (and probably quite a bit cheaper too!). Ebay was not used as heavily as it is today and with a bit of work it was often possible to find some poorly listed treasures.

I have a couple second year 51's, a gold/dove and sterling/cedar blue. Do you remember having a favorite among your collection? Do all have gold nibs?

As far as I recall they all have gold nibs yes. I used to use a black SJ as my daily pen back then but it wasn't a first year and maybe 1945 from memory

Lovely collection! I especially like the Yellowstone and the Nassau Green in this group! Congratulations on such a fine representation!

Thank you - yes the rarer coloured ones are always nice to have but if Im honest I think the cedar blue with silver cap is the nicest colour combination. If you went back in a time machine I would hazard a guess that if the prices were identical the yellow, beige and green would probably be the least popular.

You basically have my dream collection...

And yes, IMO Cedar Blue with Silver cap is the best looking of the bunch :)

Do all have gold nibs?

The only "51"s that should NOT have a gold nib are Early Specials with the high polish cap, hoop filler and black cap jewel. They had Octanium nibs. Octanium having once been described somewhere as Parker's marketing way of saying "Not as expensive as gold" :)

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

Thank you. My first 51 has a slight gold tint. Perhaps it been rubbed off. The other is more obvious. I realize the restorer may have changed it out for a less expensive one. It performs as well as the other.

I suspect that if you removed it from the pen and cleaned it up it would be gold (assuming it's original parker stuff)

Not all of mine are made of gold without removing them from the pen. So little of the nib protrudes that it makes it harder to tell on some pens. They aren't the glitteriest gold nibs I've seen.

If the "restorer" (this i assume is the one that needed a RE-restoration upon receipt?...) removed the gold nib and sold it as stock and restored, then that seller should be reported IMO.

Wow. If this is the 51 collection, I'm just trying to envision the Vac collection....

Okay, it's official. I DEFINITELY now want a Yellowstone, assuming I can find one that isn't commanding nosebleed prices....

Well, a girl can dream, right?

I do believe it is gold, just not as yellow as the other.
