Your Most Recent Impulsive Ink Purchase? (Replacement Bottles Don't Count.. Only 1St Timers!)

Well, the advantage for me is that I'm a LOT closer to where Pen Boutique is located than you are.  The original ETA was December 28, but then revised to the 26th, and I was thinking "Oh yikes!  I stopped the mail till the 27th...."  Then signed up for the tracking updates by email from USPS, and then as of yesterday evening it had made it to the regional distribution center.  And then this morning the update was that it was out for delivery!

For once, USPS has screwed up in MY favor....  Usually that isn't the case (this is the second credit card with late charges on it because the bill DIDN'T arrive.  And after paying the first one (which I was told earlier in the week would be a "replacement bill" so they couldn't remove the late fees, the NEW bill in fact has NEW charges on it.... 😡 Apparently the mail was delivered RIGHT after we had run to our friend's tea shop to buy an assortment of samples for various members of my husband's family, and then we swung by a Middle Eastern grocery in Pittsburgh's Strip District on the way home to get some ground lamb (and discovered that they also carry lassi, so picked up two small bottles of mango lassi for him and two of rose lassi for me...).  So at least the ink bottle was only sitting out in the cold for a couple of hours....

Yeah, I was thinking they were much closer to you, @inkstainedruth  There is a chance the package arrives tomorrow. But tracking still shows the 26th. Which is fine. It’s too late to use the ink for Christmas. I haven’t sent Christmas cards since my Dad died. That year, I wasn’t in the mood. The next year, I got hurt. And this year, I don’t know. I suppose the freezer and then the clogged sinks.  Plus I didn’t get the Christmas tree finished until the 15th, so maybe that’s why. I wasn’t feeling in the Christmas mood. But I got there while putting ornaments on the tree.

It was a month or two ago.

A major department store is closing down so I got then 20% off, will go between Christmas and new years to see what is left, for more than that off.

Lamy Crystal inks, the Agate, a good shading gray ink, is the driest ink I've ever owned. I got it to work with one drop of Glycerine....do not use two drops. I luckily had two bottles so they eneded up in an old MB shoe.

Azurite is a blue ink...didn't notice anything special

How Ever....Topaz a brownish ink...which shades....in I wasn't looking for it, does sheen.

That makes five Lamy Crystal inks I have. Amozonite ..is nothing special.

Betoitite a blue-gray was nice.

But now that I found out Topaz sheens I'll have to ink a dip pen to see if any other sheen. I hadn't turned the paper to see if they sheened.

@welch -- They are still open under the new ownership as an e-business, apparently.  But when I was looking at their website a week or so ago, I couldn't find hours listed anywhere.  And then saw someone's post in another thread about how he and his son had gone to a couple of pen shops in Tokyo recently and was comparing the experiences to going to FPH, and he's the one who said they were no longer open as a B&M store. :(

Of course, as it turns out, we're NOT going to NYC over Christmas after all, so even if they WERE still open as a B&M business I wouldn't be able to do my annual "pilgrimage" there.

@inkstainedruth The FPH website lists their hours as 9 - 5, M-F. They have had special December hours on Saturdays. No hint that they have become any more of an e-business than they have been for years. I haven't been there for months, since they are at the opposite end of Manhattan and I've had no reason to go down to the City Hall / Wall Street area...

Interesting.  I could NOT find their hours listed ANYWHERE on their website.
Of course, since we ended up NOT going east for the holiday this year, I won't be able to confirm any of this (although my sister-in-law did ask if we would be coming through sometime in January, except of course I'm not sure yet what our schedule is like (I know we do have plans for at least a couple of weekends next month) and of course there's always the issue of sweating out the weather at this time of year.  One time a few years ago we met my brother at his old place (I kept having to explain to his housemate that "No, I did NOT want an 'apple-mini' before dinner because WE had to drive when we left NJ.  And then hit bad weather and icy roads about the time we got to the Delaware Water Gap....  I was driving at that point, and sort of creeping up some hill on I-80 once we crossed the state line into PA, and some car went sailing past us in the left lane (we were in the center lane), then hit an icy patch, bounced off the left guide rail, skidded across the road perpenticularly about 15 feet in front of us, then bounced off the RIGHT guide rail....  At that point WE called 911 to report the accident (had trouble getting through to an operator!) then pulled over and I let my husband take over driving...  (he learned to drive in the Albany/Schenectady area of central NYS).

We were also VERY happy to find someplace off the highway that still had rooms available for the night....

I don't know that it was really impulsive. I waited until Birmingham Pens put the ink I wanted on sale, but really it is impulsive because I don't actually need more ink.

I KNOW mine was impulsive; I had looked @ my e-mails prior to going to beb last nite & found a REDDIT post was contained in those e-mails.  One was about a newly designed ink bottle from a company in India, ENDLESS STATIONERY, for their Alchemy inks.  There are four colors but the blue one, called Candy Seas, shows the most incredible purple sheen, I have ever seen!  It was the only one described as "HEAVY SHEEN," which it surely exhibited.

4:15 AM, Christmas morning & my fat little fingers were orderering a bottle of a MOST unusual bottle of WILDLY sheening ink, to be shipped after January 1 from India to the US for a very reasonable  $9.00 charge for their designated FedEX or UPS delivery.  (The inks are 60 ml & $20.00 each bottle.)

I SURELY don't NEED any more ink (& have only bought perhaps 6 bottles this year) but this unique bottle design combined with the WILD sheen left me defenseless...................

(AND, I only bought ONE fountain pen this past year....)

My order with the Noodler’s Grinch Garnet arrived today. I’m not sure how long it was out in the cold. The order also had a pen and notebook. I’m not sure when I’ll use the ink, so no photo.

@JonSzanto those ink colors look like the colors of the University of Missouri.  I’ll be watching them play in the Cotton Bowl on the 29th. I didn’t go to college there, but it’s my state’s premiere university. At least that’s what I think.

Azurite has a subtle golden sheen when it has been sitting in you pen for a couple of weeks. I think it's really great; professional and classy with a little bit extra.

I bought a bottle of Herbin Bleu Calanque and an old set of Levenger Blue long cartridges. I had a $5 coupon from my local, so the cartridges were free.

An unopened bottle of Parker Superchrome blue/black. Definitely has an alkaline smell to it, but the ink is pristine and works very well in my vacumatic 51.

I added a box of Pilot Sepia cartridges to my Amazon order today. It only comes in cartridges, I guess. There was a partially filled cartridge in the Pilot leather pen I bought in November, and it really suits that pen.

Bought two bottles of Kuretake ink
Concrete grey and ebicha, I wanted to try out their shimmer potions.
Today they arrived, I mixed the pink and blue shimmer potion with each of them.
Their disclaimer says do not use in FP but I am trying out with my cheap pens.
I love the color tone of ebicha, but Concrete grey is way too light for my taste.

I have 2 on the way - the MadeByEndless Alchemy Candy Sea (when it releases) - mostly due to the bottle shape, and the Van Dieman's Aurora Australis.
