Your Most Recent Impulsive Ink Purchase? (Replacement Bottles Don't Count.. Only 1St Timers!)

Woho! 1.6 kilo (3.2 pounds) of ink just arrived from Fountainfeder down in Germany.

Just needing two days from Flensburg up to Lund in Sweden is almost impressive.

No, I cannot say that all of the bottles are "impulsive" purchases, but some of them are,

like the Platinum Citrus Black.

Please tell me what shop was that? I live in North Seattle and I'm trying to figure out which shops keep the best selection of actual pen inks on hand. ArtistCraftsman is almost all dip pen shellacs.

    It’s on Weller St.

Top 5 of 20 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Sailor x Daimaru Central Rockhopper Penguin PGS mini, Sailor Wonder Blue

What else did you order? Platinum Citrus Black is a good ink. I've been a fan of every Platinum ink to date, even Carbon Black, which initially was a bit disappointing because it isn't as black as I'd hoped. 😅

You got some lovely inks there, Claes! All reasonably priced too, except the Platinum ink, which is a bit more.

Even after prolonged oxidation?

I do admit, though, that immediately after application it is a very weak/non-contrasty ink.

I didn't notice Platinum Carbon Black darkening after application, but if you want darker there's always Chou Kuro.

Side note; Platinum (dyestuff) black is an un underrated standard black ink, not the blackest, but very decent water resistance, lubrication and behaviour on bad papers.

Yeah- I looked at some older writing in Carbon Black and it looked like a dark grey. Thanks for the email, by the way! I'll check out the link later today 🙂

Today I ordered Akkerman's Dou's Emerald Green. Green and blue inks are my weakness, particularly the muted ones.

The name of the shop was there in the pieces that you quoted. Kinokuniya. It’s in the building with Uwajimaya, the big Japanese grocery store.

Kinokuniya has a large selection of Japanese books. And since stationery and pens. Upstairs lots of figurines.

Prices are generally MSRP, so if you’re looking for pens or ink then go there for instant gratification and not for a good deal.  Or go there to fondle the paper😀

University Bookstore has a few pens and inks. Think Lamy Safari and Pilot Metropolitan, maybe some slightly more expensive models, but the selection is small. You used to be able to get MB pens there with a nicely done school logo on it (yes, a 149 with a big purple W😜), but they’ve stopped that.  In other words, focused on pedestrian student pens and not graduation gifts.  And maybe some Noodlers and Herbin inks.  Notebooks from Rhodia, Leuchtturm, etc.  If I’m meeting somebody in the U District I’ll probably park at the bookstore and buy a trinket there.

This is amazing, thank you! I forgot I used to ogle the inks and pens in the basement at the UBookstore when I was going there. Not that I have any more disposable income than I did then, but it would be amazing to window shop again. The upstairs north half gift shop has a few goodies as well, if I remember correctly.

I just had to convince my fellow Nevada @Frank C that we needed the new Sailor Nevada ink.  He didn't believe that we needed more ink and commented that the Nevada ink was BORING.  I agree on both counts - in theory.  1.  The Nevada orange that they use is clearly made by someone who has NEVER lived here.  For example, the Valley of Fire (office image from the US Government) has AMAZING oranges and red.  Instead they give us BORING.  Not to mention, we have Red Rock, the Great Basin or other natural wonders. Then we have the lights of the Las Vegas Strip.  2.  I may have more ink than I can use in my lifetime.  I am however working really hard at getting well so that I can use even more ink.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I’m peeved that they haven’t made the ink for Missouri yet. Maybe it will be the color of mud for the Missouri River sometimes called Big Muddy. Who knows when they will finally make it, or what color they will choose.

@amberleadavis wow, that landscape is amazing. Thank you for sharing it.

@amberleadavis the landscape reminds me of a resin pen. That desert is deserving of a beautiful ink. I’m glad you’re back 💙

I just won an auction for  a 16 ounce bottle of Sheaffer Permanent Red in the yellow box. Now I definitely have more red ink than I need.

Four (4) Dominant Industry Inks made their way to Florida via Papier Plume.

The colors are Periwinkle Blue, Winter Wood, Maple and Downpour. Great

ink and just love the bottles!

Me too. It was easier to obtain growing up than Quink red. You have fun too, you’re due.

I found sailor Moroccan mint tea on a deal. Maybe too good. I’m waiting to see if the shipping confirmation arrives let alone the actual package.
