As for the Twin Towers?  I found out

I worked at Ikea and in a middle management position. I was upstairs in the main office, doing something on a computer....I had my own office down stairs, when The Jr. Boss came up to me and told me quietly about the Twin Towers. I was stunned, couldn't believe it.

The main fault for that is they stopped the draft. Not a single man on any of the planes had basic training. all they had were carpet cutters. I don't fear a carpet cutter even at my age........Where were all those Karate students?

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

I love reading about all these impulsive ink purchases.

Reading, but not impulsively buying inks?

I remember when the news broke about the Twin Towers- I was in a car getting a lift from someone I would charitably call 'unintelligent', when the music that was on the radio was suddenly interrupted for a special announcement. A few seconds into the announcement, brainiac said "boring!" and turned it off. I was at a computer 5 minutes later reading what was going on with astonishment.

The journey home was surreal- London had been threatened too, and the trains were packed with shocked people fleeing the city, fearing a new international war.

I don't remember if it was the killing of JFK or the Challenger (or both), but many women called in to complain their soap opera was off the air.

I thought the sarcastic tone would be more obvious. The lack of self-restraint in following a topic is more than a bit depressing, not to mention politics and misogyny.

There are some excellent inks there. Ancient Copper and Writer's Blood in particular are two favourites of mine.

Is a must have ink that I don't use much, but one must have it just in case. Once one has been exposed to it.

Semi-flex is too wet for that ink, in on good paper it shades.

Which now that I think about what you wrote might be what that weirdness is.

Ink pools deeper in wider letter parts

I agree- it's a fairly flexible nib and when a word in cursive requires the nib to be pressed down for multiple letters it really pours out.

@Geert Jan I've narrowly avoided compulsively buying those Akkerman Inks, just for the gorgeous bottles. Knowing that they're just a rebrand of Diamine may stay my hand on the buy button a little bit longer. Thanks for the info/public service announcement.

@RJS and @Bo Bo Olson That R&K Alt-Goldgrun is such a wonderful shading ink. I only ever really use it in very broad nibs or wet noodles that have a really wide line variation just to see the range of yellowish greens it lays down. I wonder how the EF nib will show it? it seems like the narrow nibs, while much more practical, really lose a lot of the visual impact of these unusual inks. I need to revisit that one.

It's a fascinating ink, and even though it's not necessarily a shade I find beautiful it's certainly one that I'll play around with, using different pens on different paper.

I think @Misfit was joining in your sarcastic fun. It's hard to indicate tone in a post. Thank god for emojis.

As far as the politics and misogyny? Can't really argue with you there. FPN certainly represents a lot of viewpoints I rarely see in my normal social circle. Sometimes you just have to hit that ignore users button when it gets too much.

Yeah, sorry. Sometimes it just gets to be a bit much. I'll go ink shopping online now! 🙃

Well, I did wonder if @JonSzanto has found he finally has enough inks.  I am getting less excited about buying inks. I looked to see what inks are similar to Diamine Indigo. I didn’t have any of the mentioned.  Didn’t care. Yet it’s a great era for inks. New ink makers, old ones making yet more ink…. As I’ve said here before, it’s the golden age of fountain pen inks.

Needing a little retail therapy... I just ordered a few Diamine inks: Midnight, Onyx and Twilight. The first has lurked on a wish list for ages, the other two are travelling companions for the long journey from the other side of the planet.

All 30ml, thinking of them as very large samples... (getting those to here is so spendy and slow it's not worth it). Fingers crossed.

Will work for pens...

@AmandaW which part of the world did you order the Diamine inks?  I’ve order the 30ml bottles from Cult Pens. It’s handy when they have a pen I’m looking for at a similar or better price to trigger free shipping. Although sometimes I don’t have enough to put in the order for free shipping, and order anyway.

From the UK, but not Cult cos their shipping fees are very expensive if not spending enough to qualify for free. For a little purchase Pure Pens works better for me. The price if the ink was better too.

@AmandaW thank you for the reply. I’ve bought from Pure Pens at least once. I think they had a good price on the TWSBI Diamond 580 RBT.

Not an ink purchase, but I did pick up these cute 20ml bottles to share some of the ginormous bottle of Perle Noire (posted earlier) with my pen club.

I just looked that ink up.  Way too light to be legible on the page, IMO, but boy is it yellow! :o
