Pilot Custom 845 Section Interchangeability

Thinking about taking the plunge into Urushi pens, but I love my flex nibs too much. So Im wondering: is the section of a Pilot Custom 845 interchangeable with the section of a 742? I think they are the same size and since they are both CC pens I'm hoping I might be able to get a 845 and swap in the lovely #10 FA nib, in the section, I already have.

As a second question: am I right in assuming that the section of an 845 is just plastic, not urushi coated.

I can only provide information about the section material - yes it is just plastic.

These Pilot pens are all urushi-coated and use size #10 nibs:

so — not that I recommend doing it at all, and besides, I personally detest the #10 FA nib — if you're prepared to rip the nibs out from the sections and swap them around, I'm sure they'll fit.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

The sections of your 845 and 742 can be swapped. I would recommend a section level swap. Not a nib level swap. There is no urushi on the 845 section.

Awesome, thanks Hari. Now to wait until someone has a vermilion 845 on sale...

My 845 is fitted with a #15 FA nib. Does that make difference? You folks are talking about a #10 nib and section .
