I might as well put in my 0.02 CAD at this point in the conversation.

Must come clean first, I have no experience with Platinum's pens, just their wonderful IG inks. But I have owned two Kaweco Dia2 pens. From the get-go, I was impressed with the fit & finish of the Dia pens. Everything is solid, Teutonic looking. The outside surface of the pen is covered by black resin. The inside of the barrel is lined with brass & is precision threaded (much like a Nakaya). The section is made out of brass covered over with resin, ending in a chromed finishing ring. The the cap threads are gear cut like pens that are bench made. The Dia2 pens have that vintage look.

I disappointed in the performance of the Kaweco/Bock 060 (small sized) nib units. Right out-of-the-box, all of the nib units exhibited some ink starvation. I switched out these nibs for 14c units, but each of these had to have adjustments made to the feeds before they wrote properly. For the size of these pens, the 060 nib units are clearly undersized.

This was the reason why I paid forward both of my Dia2s (but kept their gold 060 nib units to use on my Kaweco Specials). Just recently, I read that a larger sized Bock nib unit could be screwed into the Dia2. If I would have known this fact, I would have kept one Dia2 & added a large gold nib to it.

Platinum pens have their following. Among the Japanese big three pen manufacturers, I only have experience with the Sailor brand. When I read reviews of Platinum's pens, the nibs seem to be very well regarded. Negative comments about the quality of the plastic used in the pens or visible mould marks on certain parts of the pens have made me think twice about trying out the brand. I was specifically looking into Platinum's 3-tine music pens or into their President models.

As for the Platinum 3776 series, I haven't yet handled one of them. Because this series seems to be constructed from semi-transparent resin, I have not been interested, as I like opaque resins better. One of these days however, I do want a Platinum pen with a "soft" 14c. nib or a music nib

I have the Platinum 3776.

My opinions:

- Great build quality

- Very hard nib (which I don't like, but many do).

So why not get one with a Soft Fine or Soft Medium nib? :D

I've started a thread with the difference dimensions and pictures for the 060 VS 076 Bock nibs here. It wouldn't work, and shouldn't work, except that the section doesn't stop at the inner cap, but is stopped by the threads on cap and barrel. The nib just clears the inner cap, and that's all that you need. Follow the link for more details.
