What's Up At Christof's

I just wanted to show you some pics of my newest pen for the week end. Some of you probably know that one of my all time favourite pens is the Parker "51". I have lot's of them in my collection, but mostly common ones. Recently I had the opportunity to buy one which is a little bit special. I always wanted a DJ with a smooth sterling silver cap.... This is one but even better! It’s a first year pen with aluminum jewels and imprints on cap and blind cap. But have a look yourself. The nib is a smooth and wet fine to extra fine.

Hope you like the pics of this rather humble and short post. Sorry for that but we really have busy times at the office currently. Lots of work for my newest pen... but let's see what could be next!

Lovely photos, as always, Christof. I'd like a better look at the drawings, too. Please?

I am very sorry to say that the sketch is not new....I showed it already. See HERE

...as I said: busy times at the office, no time to sketch funny things, only boring office stuff.

  • 3 weeks later...

Yes, I know, it has become quite here at Christof's... The reasons are, lots of work at the office, busy days at home and lots of (undone) Projects at the pen work shop...

But here I am agin with a sketch. My eldest son* has had birthday and an ooooold tradition (8 years) in our family is to draw birthday cards for the kids. Here comes the latest:

*yeah, the one who likes sea animals and whales...

The red lines are drawn with a Pelikan 400 with a flexible steno nib and the black lines I made with my Sailor sapporo mini... oops! Now, you know it. I admit, I own one modern pen. (Shame on me).

Please forgive the crappy picture. It's made with my new Ipad mini - great gadget, not as good camera...

This is really a great little pen and I love to carry it it in my pocket.

Christof, excellent sketch as always! And yes, the Sapporo mini is a surprise, especially from you. Ha~

After this shocking revealing (that I onw and use a Sailor Sapporo Mini...!) I'm coming up with a quick shot from the workshop.

Currently I am working on a couple of pens wich are not mine! This is extraordinary because I do not do custom restorations usually. Well, this case is different. The pens, all of them (so called) Swiss Soenneckens (see H E R E )belong to a friend of mine. That friend. The one I got my Pelikan lizard and the MB 138 from. So I was thinking that I should do something for him when he was asking me. He wants to sell some pens of his collection and I told him that the pens should be restored and well photographed for asking a good price....and that's how it happend that I'm doing my first custom job.

I alwas am working an several pens at the same time and carry the parts in those plastic boxes.

Lots of interesting subtle variations between these pens. Can you tell us the model numbers?

Absolutely! This is the most amazing thing about this pens. Hard to believe that they came out in a small number, and every pen is different, but it's fact! One could think they came more of a pre industrial time than the 40's/59's...

Numbers? Here they are from top down:

-110

-110

-112

But also here: same pen = different number and same number = different pen...

The mystery about Soenneckens numbering system goes on.

Too bad their dad can't draw like this. :headsmack:

...just try! Your boys will love it.

Me to can't really draw, it's just doodling.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Your doodling is very good.

BTW - I have a Soennecken 112A in black celluloid but that red one is a stunner.

Recently, I was the lucky finder of a not that usual find(at least not usual for me…).

At a local antique shop here in my town, I stumbled over a boxed and (as it seems) mint Parker „51“ set in Nassau green. The set comeswith box and card board box. That’s how it has ben displayed in the shop – I overlooked it almost...

The set seems to be unused. I opened the pen and there was no ink in the collector. There still is aworking diaphragm in it. Of course I will never ink this one…

Note that the color of the pen and pencil are nearly matching andthere are no signs of brassing or scratches on the caps.

Date code is .8. The cap is the transition variant with arrow clip. A very late DJ vac "51".

These finds have become quite rare in the last past years. I'm happy that with some luck it's still possible to find that cool pens in the wild. But let's see what's next...

Christof, I think your luck in finding these sorts of pens in the wild exceeds anyone else's! Beautiful pen and pencil, and I LOVE the case.
