Sailor Manyo Akebi

Sailor Manyo Akebi is an intense retina-searing magenta. I love it.

It has a lot of shading and some golden sheen. It writes smooth but seems to be not as wet as other Sailor inks. It has no water resistance.

Really looks amazing. Reminds me of Noodler's King Phillip's Requiem (LE).

Interestingly, your example shows a darker ink than what I see in the Anderson Pens swab and writing example. I thought the Manyo inks were on the lighter side but this looks excellent.

I have this lovely ink in a Platinum Bourgogne, and I love it. I find it quite similar to Iroshizuku Yama Budo, though with more shading. Thanks for the great review.

Thanks, northvandave -- I had been wondering about how it compared to Yama-budo, which I LOVE.

@ white lotus -- I think (at least from the scans, that it's a little darker than King Philip's Requiem (that ink is really vibrant).

And of course thanks to Lgsoltek for another stellar review... and, well, maybe not.... :headsmack:

How would you describe flow? I always admire by Sailor colors, a have a few inks, but what makes me to look other direction: not enough flow.

It is beautiful and reminds me of Yama Budo.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Great presentation of a beautiful ink. I haven’t used Sailor inks before ... unbelievable I know, but I really have too many inks in my closet :)

But this Manyo line is really tempting, and I’m reconsidering ...

Indeed, I’ve just checked my splash cards (don’t have YB with me), they do seem very close. Akebi seems slightly brighter with more shading.

WHAT??! You don’t know what you’re missing out! (Though the Manyo line seems less representative of Sailor inks in general. Half of them are light undersaturated colours with drier flow. I’m very fond of their four season line(s).)

Excellent review! Akebi is a really fun ink. It is more "purple" than Yama Budo. Also Akebi seems to have a bit more sheen.

I've only used this ink in fine points thus far. I didn't realize there was such a difference in sheen between points, the writing using the Music nib could have been from a different ink. Thanks for the in-depth review. Let me know if it cleans out easy.
