Another repeated number

There is a green Snorkel Sentinel on eBay with barrel number 1963. The post is at: https://www.ebay.com/itm/166168185560

The pen has a medium (M5) nib. The number is positioned in the central zone.

This is the second green Snorkel Sentinel with number 1963.

Actually this is not a different green Sentinel. I bought and restored it for resale.

Thanks for letting me know.  It was the lack of the personalisation on the barrel that threw me!

I just completed restoration of #0151, a pastel blue Sentinel. It has a sac protector with one broad and three narrow rails. The sac section has four narrow rails, which R Binder calls transitional. So I would guess production was around 1954, but Binder does not associate the sac protector/section configuration with years of production. Anyone else have an opinion?

FYI, the pen came from an eBay seller (354939231698) in Decatur, Alabama.

Thanks for posting the information.  You are seeing quite a few numbered Snorkels.  Of the 72 numbers I have recorded in the database, you have had 10 of them!

I hope as many of us as possible will add detail like the sac protector/section info that helps get at the year(s) of production. Nib design would be another detail that might shed light on this mystery. And I hope someone is maintaining contact with the Sheaffer Museum in Fort Madison.

FYI, I come across many of these because my hobby has been buying-restoring-selling Snorkel pens on eBay for 7-8 years--probably 350-500 Snorkel pens during that period. I've seen many more than the 10 to which you refer because this project came along only recently.

Details such as those would make for a very interesting correlation.  And it wouldn't have occurred to me for seeing what additional information the Sheaffer Museum might be able to provide.  :headsmack:

Black Snorkel Clipper #0422

The pen in the photo below is a black Clipper, probably made in 1953 or 54 based on (a) the crimping style of the sac protector (rails rounded inward) and (b) 3 narrow rails and 1 broad on both sac protector and sac section. The nib is etched X4.

Green Snorkel Admiral #0671

There is a green Snorkel Admiral with barrel no. 0671 on eBay. It has an M2 nib. This pen also has a personalisation which is difficult to read in the photos.  I looks like a name in the first line, the date 1956 in the second line, and ‘Club Manager’ in the third line.

The post is at https://www.ebay.com/itm/144388065517

Sorry, no pix, but picked up a burgundy Snorkel Admiral on the way to OPS on Wednesday at an antiques mall which has "0897" above the company imprint.  Unfortunately, the pen turned out to be in pretty bad shape (worse than I realized, and not sure it's going to be salvageable -- it may end up as a parts pen.  But at least it wasn't very expensive....
