What Parkers Have Joined Your Collection Lately?

Today, thanks to a tip from a guy from my local pen club (who was in line at the estate sale I was at on Saturday morning, I was able to get a refill for the 75 BP at Staples (apparently, the Jotter refills do work -- although I made sure to keep the spring on the dead refill that was in the BP when I switched the fillers out.  Of course, now I'm thinking I should have looked for a blue refill instead of black -- but I was running around like a crazed person most of the afternoon -- three stores (Staples was the second one) after getting out the allergist's office -- after frantically calling THEM to say I was running late....

At least the Jotter refill DOES fit, and I was able to get it for the "online" price (plus tax) -- not the shelf price....

Now of course, to figure out what to ink up the FP from the set with.... B)

For all practical purposes, Parker has only had one Jotter refill design and it has not changed.

As to the spring, you need one in the barrel and they too are essentially all the same.

It’s definitely a possibility. Do his original stock parts come from the Argentina factory or from the US? Mine is made in USA.

The core pens come from Parker and are obtained where pens are obtained.  You can also just buy the parts or ask for specific parts to be made and assemble the pens yourself.

That's what I was told, that the Jotter refills are basically the same -- but I had to wait till I actually saw a package in a store -- and even then I couldn't tell about the top part until I got home and opened the package.

As for the spring, I was able to salvage the one from the old filler that had been in the pen.  I do have to be a little careful about the spring, though -- I had trouble with it bending and getting slightly out of whack last week when I was examining the ballpoint (in the process of taking the pen apart and then putting it back together).  So at some point in the (hopefully distant) future, the spring might need to be replaced....

And ironically, the refill alone cost roughly half (with tax) of what I'd paid for the set to begin with!  Although I DO love being a sumgai.... B)

Why did you remove the spring?

The Parker ballpoint refills now include the “easy-flow” type, which write more like rollerballs.  In addition, one can take a Fisher Spacepen refill using the included adapter, and use it in any modern Parker ballpoint.  Doing that gives you the Fisher ballpoint attributes, such as writing upside down, if that’s what you need.

I am awaiting from Argentina two different Parker 51 items:

(1)  An authentic Parker Vacumatic 51 in the Aerometric Forest Green color.  The source is a Parker employee in Janesville, Wisconsin.  Parker apparently used what it had at the moment.

(2)  Two solid orange 51 Vacumatic barrels.  I’ll pair each with a new Vac filler unit, authentic Parker collector/feed/nib, different color hood, and different color blind cap.

I’ve been having difficulty, as of late, trying to upload photos, so I’ll skip that for now.

It wasn't intentional.  I was trying to remove the old fill in the pen and it got stuck in the bottom of the barrel (I was having some trouble when I first was trying to take the BP apart, and then the spring came off of the old refill).  The spring got slightly borked in the process, but seems to have righted itself when I put the spring on the new refill for it.

@donnweinberg Good to know about the Fisher Space pen refills.  Thanks for the information (although admittedly I don't really have much use for writing upside down....

So here’s better photos of the orange tassie flighter 45. I definitely think it’s an aftermarket add on, as the construction of the tassie is different, and the piece looks very different- more solid than extruded. Stewart had several pens from Kullock and friends (Maurizio (sp) and others) available for sale around September, so I think it’s part of that group of pens. In the picture is an Argentine Insignia and a US plastic barreled 45 for comparison.

Here are the ends pictured, the orange has an outie while the others have a more dish like end.

Here’s a side view, where the difference in shape is obvious.

I really like it, and know what I may try if I run into any 45s with broken tassies. I wonder if there are orange sections available?

This picture is very clear! Thanks for sharing.

I can't identify it as Kullock or not but it looks very nice.

There are Rage Red, Burgundy, and Blue variations of the regular PARKER, and I was able to get 2-3 pcs of all of them in a short period of time, so I suspect the rarity of the Tasmanian Orange is greater.

A flighter with a missing barrel end piece will have the mounting screw drop out along with it, so make sure you can do that before you get it. (In general, I do not recommend getting one...)

Assuming that pen is made by Kullock would the colors be the same?

I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy one, more as in if I came upon one at a thrift shop or garage sale then I know there’s a possibility of replacing the tassie (depending on the screw being there or ability to replace it, of course).

I did a side by side comparison on my screen of the pictures and the goldenrod seems paler, but of course they are pictures, so it’s not really a great comparison.

Some years ago, I was the one who purchased that very goldenrod yellow 45 from Peyton Street Pens.  That was my second one of that color.  I was very pleasantly shocked to see it on sale for only $95 and bought it right away.  I just purchased a third one of these from the Netherlands (on eBay) for much more — a FP/BP set — and await its arrival.  Also some years ago, I purchased a Kullock-made yellow 45, but its yellow was a brighter yellow than the “goldenrod” yellow authentic 45, and the Kullock-made one has a somewhat but clearly different barrel bottom from the authentic one.  I posted with photos on this color and barrel-bottom difference elsewhere in these forums.

The really super-rare plastic color is the Magenta.  In four years of daily searching on eBay, I’ve only seen one, and I bought it.  It was authentic Parker, but its color was a bit faded, especially at the section.  I keep searching for another, hoping the next one (if at all) isn’t faded.

A slightly lived-in Canadian Senior Streamline Duofold in Jade Green with not that much discolouration to the barrel considering its use. The nib is wonderfully smooth.

A 1940 Burgundy and Black (light and dark burgundy and black marble, I believe) Challenger with a later replacement nib from Newhaven. This was the final iteration of the Challenger.

A 1951 Dark Green Victory MkIV. The colour is very dark, hence the strong light and black background. The nib is most probably original.

A Kullock customized dark green pearlized 51 Vac with brushed metal cap.  I changed two things after I got it, as shown here — (1) replaced the SS clutch ring with one with a GP center and (2) replaced the fine 14k nib with a BB 14k nib.
