Do your Vac 51 bodies have a similar ring?  Did you get them from Argentina?  I’m hoping that the tool I ordered from eBay is the right size.  I’ll keep you all posted.

Yes, all of these came from Kullock via one of his eBay stores. I will look to see if I can find the ring.

There were a couple of Parkers that caught my eye today. I bought this orange tassie 45 flighter. The section is black, so it’s my Halloween 45.

That's interesting!  The body on my 45 Flighter is completely metal, I think (or possibly black -- I don't remember offhand).  Didn't know that they came with the tassie in other colors....

I have seen them in the “usual” pen colors- navy blue, burgundy, black, but not the “happy” colors. Its unusual color is what drew me in.

This is the second Parker that took my fancy- a blue Parkette Zephyr that was really well restored by Jessica Sall of Modern Analog Pens:

Of course, these go under the tree until Xmas Eve.

The tassie and the sections are supposed to be of the same colour?

This is the only flighter I have seen with a section that differs from the tassie. There might be more out there, I suppose.

Such an unusual and interesting combination. Do you know if the orange tassie original, could it be a prototype, or was it replaced at some point during the life of the pen? (hard to answer, I guess)

I don’t know, to be honest. Parker has always had some prototypes out in the wild, and there are plenty of people who modify them or make “fantasy” Parkers, so anything is possible!

Thanks, I am not really an orange person- in fact I first picked it up to show it to @fireantwho loves orange- but ended up thinking about it quite often since first seeing it. It’s going to be so hard to keep my hands off it until Xmas Eve!

Oh that is pretty!  What's the nib on it?

You definitely have more grit and stamina than me, though -- I don't think I could manage to wait that long to try out something that nice looking.

Thanks! I dipped it and don’t remember. It was an early pickup from the haul and I didn’t keep the writing sample. I totally should have.
As to the grit, it’s the one time of year that I do this to myself. I have no chill (ironically for a penguin) when it comes to instant gratification most of the year.  I’m actually looking into doing a no-buy January (watch a grail come up for sale at a good price and then I eat my words) because I have bought so much hobby stuff lately.

Oh I know how you feel.  I went to an estate sale yesterday because there was a gold-filled (?) Snorkel set, even though I figured I might not be able to afford it (the stupid driveway people STILL haven't started pouring the concrete yet and this was supposed have taken 5 days and then they were several weeks late showing up and then we got hit with having to put in a retaining wall on one side of the driveway, which is doubling the price...).  And a guy from my local pen club was a little behind me in the line before the doors opened, and he apparently didn't find it EITHER....  But I did get a couple of things as gifts for friends, and a coffee mug with the Cat in the Hat on it for me, and an old Beatles 45 ("Eleanor Rigby" on one side and "Yellow Submarine" on the other) but I don't know which is the A side and which is the B side and also don't know if it will even play because I still haven't gotten the stereo system I bought at an estate sale a couple of years ago even set up yet....

I have to keep looking. Now my mini collection of Parker 45 has more holes.

There really are soooo many. When you consider that it’s possibly the most widely produced fountain pen of its era, with factories all over the world, there’s all sorts of variations. There’s a particular few that I am sure are prototypes that I really want but am unlikely to come across.

The orange tassie is most likely a Kullock creation. I have several interesting ones of his.

It’s definitely a possibility. Do his original stock parts come from the Argentina factory or from the US? Mine is made in USA.

As a literal thinking child, I was terrified by the line “puts on her face that she keeps in a jar by the door.”

Here’s hoping your driveway saga is short and there’s no more expensive surprises.

I managed to score a NOS octanium nib 75 flighter (all stainless) with a fine nib, as well as a cartridge fill 61 stainless/GP (needed a new section), and a black and GF English made 65, with the aerometric filler.

The 61 and 75 are up and running, with both being very decent writers, while the 65 had just been cleaned and isn't yet tested (plus I want to get a new aero breather for it if possible).

Sadly, we already HAD the "expensive surprise" in the retaining wall that basically DOUBLED the price.  As for the saga itself?  Getting longer.  They may not be able to start pouring concrete until the end of the week, according to what one of the owners told my husband when picking up the second check over the weekend.

I'm just hoping we don't have to sell MORE stock in order to cough up the last payment when it's all finally done (which technically WON'T happen until the spring when they put down topsoil and plant grass on the side opposite where the wall got put in (of course, I'm betting that NOBODY on the crew brings a saw to do a better job on the broken tree limb on one of the magnolias I planted a number of years ago...).
