Love the yellows! I have 2 or 3 of those myself that I’ve either bought or put together from parts I bought.

Hi, Carguy.  I, too, love the yellows.  I hesitate to ink them up for very long, as I worry about staining from ink.  What’s been your experience?

Recently acquired Orange 51s:  On the left, a “giant” Kullock C/C version, using the C/C adapter sold from India.  On the right, a double-jewel Aero.  Both have GP caps.

I also obtained an orange 51 mechanical pencil, but the file is too large to upload here.

 Recently acquired Green 51s:

The darker one is a Avocado body color, double-jewel Aerometric with a metal cap.  This one has a 1.6mm wide-stub nib, as shown below.

The other two Greens are a Vacumatic (right-most) and an Aerometric (middle of three).  The photos represent well that the Vacumatic’s green color is a bit lighter than that of the Aerometric.  The Vacumatic is shorter than the Aerometric.

Accidentally had the nib closeup on the Avocado twice.

I had been after a Mixy (originated in France c.1979 became the Parker 15, and eventually the Jotter) for years but they are scarce in the wild and I never spotted one at a sensible (pocket money) price before. The flat rectangular clip is reminiscent of the Parker 85 which also came from France at around the same time and was similarly short-lived. Might that be the other pen you were thinking of?

That Parker 85 clip always reminds me of this one. They were made around the same time.

Now then, that really is a rare bird!

Congratulations on landing that one..

I had to look up Parker 85s since I wasn't familiar with those.  So what is this pen?

This pen is a Parker "Oiseau" (or Bird in English).  A rather scarce French-made pen, from around 1979. I am fortunate to have three.

That's about 4% of the entire production run, isn't it?

Who knows how many fountain pens were made?
I do know that the remaining 70 Ball pens were supplied by Parker to be auctioned at the 1998 Geneva pen show.
These later released ball pens were all individually numbered on the actuator, and they all had a plastic nose cone, unlike the original metal nose cone.
I am aware of one other finish in vermeil, but have only seen a ballpoint in that pattern (pic is not my pen).
These pens were all made from hallmarked 925 Sterling Silver and are quite hefty.

I have not been on FPN for a longer time. I still miss the Classifieds, but I realize that in fact little has changed here (except the size of Mitto's collection 😊). I'm not sure if this fits in this thread. But since there is concentrated expertise here, I'll try anyway.

My own Parker "51" collection is much more modest, but I'm still a bit proud. My goal has been to own one of each color. I succeeded with the first and second generations.

I even was able to catch an english Insignia in rolled silver:

But I'm not sure about the third generation. I have not yet found a clear source on this subject. The Parker "51" book is also no help in this case. In my opinion, the problem is that the third generation was produced in the U.S. and the UK at the same time*, in different ways and with different materials.

I am especially unsure about the color gray. According to various sources, there was an American gray and an English gray. Can anyone here confirm this? I think someone who has 1700 Parker "51" might be able to… 😊

Please excuse me for hijacking this thread. If it bothers you, please just ignore my post.

There are single jewel versions of those 51s. I like the colors, but the different caps are as interesting.

I got my first Parker 51!!

Geez I can't believe how long I waited to pick one of these up. I didn't think I liked the look of the hooded nib. But after taking a deep dive reading about the history of the 51, I felt compelled to give it a try and even grew to find the design really quite attractive.

I love the smooth tapered section and the absence of a step-down that I often find digging into my fingers. And wow! ... As an experiment, I left the cap off for increasingly longer periods of time to see if I could get it to dry out and hard start and gave up at 30 minutes. It started right up without missing a beat. Nice smooth writer too, of course. And the stainless flighter... Oh myyyy. This is definitely my new favorite. Inked with J. Herbin Bleu des Profondeurs.

Sorry for the mediocre photos. It's late and dark and I didn't feel like busting out a nice camera. I'll take some nice macro glamour shots sometime soon. Been wanting to do a photo shoot of several pens.

The all-red 51 is outstanding. Maybe Parker should have a good look at it for a new version of the 51 new generation.

Went to an estate sale earlier (started at 1 PM, but I got there early to get a good place in line).  The photos were pretty awful but it did say "high end pen sets" in the listing.  Most of the pens turned out to be BPs or rollerballs, but did score a sterling Ciselé Parker 75 FP & BP set, in what appears to be the original box, with a leather (?) carry case/sleeve (not sure if it's leather), a press bar style converter & a couple of (possibly dried out) cartridges of vintage Permanent Blue Super Quink ink, plus a dead cartridge already installed.  The nib on the FP appears to be an F (the bottom of the feed is marked "65").

Both pens are pretty tarnished, and I can't seem to get the BP screwed back together (I had looked to see if it was a pencil or a BP).  But for $15 for everything?  I can find someone to help me reattach the two parts of the BP barrel....

ETA: Sorry, no pix yet.  I had to do some shopping afterwards, and by the time I got home from all of that it was around 3:30 PM here.  And the driveway is still not really traversable (although they now seem to have put down gravel all the way to the bottom of it), at least as far as the sidewalk).  I was having to unload the car in stages (and the bottom most part of the driveway is pretty muddy, between digging it up and having to remove the hedges on both side of it, plus we had maybe half an inch of snow last night) -- and then a bunch of rain today (at least we're not in as bad shape as the Laurel Highlands, or in the central/eastern part of PA -- I think I heard a little while ago that I-84 was closed all the way to the NYS line...).

Well, I try....   It was just a lucky guess on my part -- all the other pens in boxes seemed to be BPs....  It was sort of a fluke that I saw "PARKER" written on the box lid.  And then when I opened it and saw that it was a 75 set?  And sterling Ciselé at that (even if really tarnished) I was glad I got there as early as I did....

Of course, in another room there was a LOT of Mickey Mouse stuff and I said something and another person at the sale was kinda going "Who would BUY all this?"  And I said, "Well, a friend of mine collects Donald Duck stuff...."

There was also a lot of Star Wars and Star Trek collectible stuff, and shelves full of collectible toy cars (I'd guess they were about 10" long) and a bunch of model train stuff in the basement.
