Aha! So it’s YOU I lost that 45 and red 51 to at auction. Congrats! I wanted that 45 pen but probably didn’t need the full red 51.

Well, whaddaya know.  The 45 is all it's cracked up to be -- a unique version, albeit unofficial.

2 more Parker 45s. Nothing special about 45s but I love the colours on these two... orange and teal!

Another Duofold to add to a small but growing collection.  This time a Duofold Senior in blue, which I think is from the mid 1950s.

Oh, the teal one looks paricularly nice!

What are the nibs on them?

Parker 61 mk 1, Vista Blue Turquoise, Heirloom cap. This was a nice catch for me since the only Parkers I am really interested in trying to collect now are 61 mk 1, lacquered 75s, and 75-based Premiers.

Parker Duofold Deluxe. Not the best colors and the nib needs a bit of repairing but still in good enough shape for a user grade pen.

Joined is probably not the right word, assimilated would be better.

I had seen a 1940s Parker box in my desk for years  and thought it held something else, I opened it yesterday and was pleased to see a Cedar Blue Vac 51, absolutely immaculate, I had forgotten that I owned this pen. I flushed it several times, the water ran clear but as usual the nib still held black ink, the fine nib wrote very well, a tiny bit of smoothing and it wrote superbly

It is easy to forget the impact that the 51 must have had in the 1940s

Not FP's but I walked into newsagent and saw these in an out of the way glass fronted cabinet.

i couldn't just leave them there. They had been sitting in that cabinet for 10 years.  The shopkeeper did her best to convince me that they were recent stock. Not more than a year old. I dont think she understood the positive aspect of them being 2013 pens.

@thx1138 I love those “stuck in times past” displays. I dream of finding a small town store that has something like this, but FPs. I miss when stores kept inventory until it sold.

I bought a blue Parker IM monochrome, pictures to come when delivered. I have had this pen in my sights since it debuted, so I’m pretty excited about it. I know it’s just a coating, but that blue nib looks so good! 😊

Nice!  I have a few 61s, but none with fancy caps like that one (and one is missing the arrow).  Is it a one of the capillary fillers?  My first one, when I went to flush it out, had so much dried ink in it that I kept reconstituting the ink and writing with it for a couple of MONTHS, until the ink was so diluted that it was illegible on the page.

Yours looks to be in good shape.  Unfortunately, Parker seems to have used the same material as they used on Parker 21s, and that plastic is prone to cracking.  I finally broke down and bought a "flighter" model with a metal barrel and section.

Yes. Cartridge/converter version is considered to be 'mk 3'.

Mk 1 is about 5 mm longer capped than mk 2 & 3. To my eyes, these few millimeters make a huge difference and give the Mk 1 sleek and elegant proportions. Mk 1 is also distinguishable by a very thin band between the section and barrel (despite what parkerpens.net claims).

Yes and no, I think. I have bought ones that have good sections, figuring that, after all this time, they should be good for at least a few more years. Hasn't failed me yet.

I do see them with wrinkled/cracked sections more than what would be normal for other pens. Those can be super bargains for parts, especially if they have a special cap.

This is usually fairly easily addressed using a rubber bulb syringe, cutting off the end so it can be mounted onto the capillary filler. This particular one had a lot of dried black ink inside and I had to work with it three 5-10 minute or so intervals with the bulb syringe, leaving the pen nib pointed down against a paper towel in between for a few hours to allow residual ink to flow out through gravity and capillary action, to get the water I was pushing through it with the bulb syringe to run clear. I am using a light-colored ink and the pen is writing true-to-color so I am reasonably confident almost all of the residual ink was flushed out.

Wow! I have never heard of a 61 with a metal section. Is it slippery to hold? Could you please post a photo?

Ack.  Now I'm trying to remember if the entire pen is metal, or if I wrote "section when I meant to say "cap"....  And you were right and I was wrong -- I just pulled out the pen, and the section is black (whatever sort of plastic they used) and is one of the 61s missing the arrow on the section as well.

Sorry about that. (In my defense it's been a really long day after a largely very stressful week... :headsmack:).

No worries. At least it has a good section, save the arrow!

Hope things look up for you in the coming week!
