What Parkers Have Joined Your Collection Lately?

I have olive and turquoise. I bought an orange one on eBay and it was cracked when I got it but not the sellers fault. I’ll keep looking at pen shows because I’d absolutely love pink and yellow! May not make it to the Triangle Pen Show with gas prices the way they are.

I just ordered my first Parker fountain pen and it’s also my first vintage pen.  It’s a 45 because I wanted a pen from my birth year.  The color is green (classic model) and it looks nearly new in the online photos. Can’t wait to try it out!

Congratulations!  My first semi-vintage pen and first pen with a gold nib was a Parker 45 -- a black GT Deluxe with a medium (according to folks on here when I posted pix a few years ago after I got it (I didn't even know what it was, other than it was a Parker ).  With the right ink in it, that pen is like dancing on ice -- just glides across the page.... :D

What's the nib on the one you're getting?

Thanks Ruth,  The pen and pencil set that I'm getting were from 1961 and still have their original paperwork which gives the date.  I was more interested in having a pen from that particular year than in the nib material.  It's a stainless fine but I don't mind a stainless nib.  It was the only one that I could find that gave a specific year rather than a range of years.  My understanding is that it was a student pen.

I think Parker 45, which has evidence of early release, is very rare.

Please be careful as Parker45 will increase before you know it.

I just made a successful bid for a junk lot including the Blue Endpiece Flighter.

I thought you were asking when the pen tip would be released.

 You can check it here.

About the octanium nib (the nib is not just stainless steel. It is also used in high-end models such as Harlequin.).

I've been reading more about Parker 45s and am becoming more confused.  When describing Parker 45s parkerpens.net says "The body also sported a metal ring and a completely new kind of steel nib."  Other Parker sites state that early 45s only had gold nibs. The one I am ordering claims to be from 1961 and has a stainless nib.  Did early 45s come with stainless nibs?

Here is a screenshot of the ebay listing if that helps.  Thanks for any info.  I am definitely new to this!large.1536445057_Parker45GT.png.fb6461a78b76600707b01586fd0ac526.png

Oh 45s definitely had steel nibs -- some of mine have steel nibs, some have gold plated nibs, and some have 14K gold nibs.  But I don't know which pens I have are "early" vs. later production, because that was when Parker had stopped doing date codes (some of my 51s from the 1950s don't have date codes either).

And then of course, just to confuse the issue further, Parker (after having bought Eversharp out to get the tech for cartridges) issued pens that were sort of hybrids of 45s and Eversharps.  I think they were lower-end "budget" pens.  I have one but don't know what the model is (the cap says "Eversharp" on one side and the Parker logo on the other side, and has a straight clip instead of the arrow clip; and unlike 45s the nib unit does not unscrew from the section.  They apparently made several different "Eversharp" models but I haven't found enough information out there to determine if mine is a "Big E" or another model (and one guy at a pen show I was at a while back dismissed it as "It's an Eversharp, so who cares?" )  Well *I* care because I like keeping as much detail in the pen inventory as I can for each pen I own for my records.

I just got a gold stub nib for the 45 which is now inked with Diamine Midnight Hour from the Blue Inkvent series.

The nibs are Octanium, Parker's name for Eligoly.

I'm also aware of the parker pensnet article on the 45 nibs.

Isn't it "steel" "stainless steel" = "octanium" only in this scene?

Octanium is also used in the Parker 21, which is a model before the 45 release.

Since the article says “a new kind of stainless steel” I would think they’re speaking of Octanium.  I was questioning the date of my pen (or wondering if the nib had been changed) because some Parker pen sites say that all of the early 45s had gold nibs and that Octanium was used later.  The pensnet article makes it sound like some early pens did have steel alloy nibs. I was hoping that someone on this forum knew which is true.  Just curious.

Interesting. Would this be able to handle IG ink?

I heard that the owner (first) could select the pen tip at the time of purchase.

I think it's good to interpret it 60 years ago in a fun way.

I also have an American 45 with a French nib.

It's full of mysteries when you care about the period without a date code.

 That's fun too.

I forgot to explain that I had never seen a French-made 45 of this time in my country (probably not for sale).

Nothing special but I've bought NOS Parker Vector (Stainless Steel) yesterday. It has "IIN" datecode so as far as I understand it was manufactured in 1999. I wanted to have this pen as a kid but never bought it back then.

Visited Fountain Pen Hospital during my lunch break and picked up a few great Parkers. I got a NOS Vac Maxima in azure which, curiously, has no date code on it. The golden web Vac is an interesting one - it’s the same style of Diamond Medal Vac-fillers that Parker made in the mid-30s, but it is branded Parker. It’s in nice condition, I just need to clean the gunk off the barrel. And a cordovan brown 51 set rounds out today’s finds.

I believe that I have bought the last 61 that I will ever need to buy! I got a Signet GF triple set in the later model with a metal jewel, made in England that takes a cartridge or converter. This one has one of those amazing English “M” nibs that lays down a wet line.

Now I’ll have to sell the NOS Argentina made triple set to offset what I paid for the new one.

Yes it is!  Azure Blue Pearl is the only Vac color I have where I have 2 of them -- a Sub-Debutante 3rd Generation model and a double-jewel Speedline filler which I have (tentatively) ID'd as a Senior Debutante.  I didn't realize for the longest time that color was available in anything besides the plastic plunger 3rd Gen models -- and when I found out that it WAS available as a 2nd Gen model I just HAD to have one!
