What Parkers Have Joined Your Collection Lately?

The filler might have been replaced at some point, I think they're interchangeable.

Anyway, that is quite a find. And the photos are good enough where it counts, to give a good sense of the actual color. Congratulations.

Thanks to Paul-in-SF and Carguy for the confirmations.   I was pretty sure it was a first year. I’m not as a rule someone who goes after such things, but had been reading a lot about the 51s recently, and when I saw this a little bell rang in my head - esp. because the seller didn’t seem to know what he had. Re the filler - I did see someplace a picture of the “red band” pens -the threads on the blind cap were red - that had the metal filler, and next to it a “black band” with the plastic one. Far fewer of the reds were made, it seems. Yes, a special pen - I’m pretty chuffed! 😃

I’d guess late 1941 or early 1942. Looks like the hood is chipped.

worth sending to someone that specializes in 51s.

San Francisco International Pen Show - The next “Funnest Pen Show” is on schedule for August 23-24-25, 2024.  Watch the show website for registration details.

My PM box is usually full. Just email me: my last name at the google mail address.

And…would need to see pen in hand but filler could be original or a period replacement.

It is chipped a tiny bit. It doesn’t bother me - should it? And it writes nicely. I should probably send it to a 51 specialist but I don’t know any, and can’t really do that right now. Names appreciated, though.

I second the Parker 51 service recommended ^^

Congrats on a double jewel 51.

I followed the classic instructions on how to fill the pen last night, wrote 2-3  pages in a pocket notebook, and put it to bed. Still writing fine this morning!

A "True Blue" Streamlined model from 1929 or so. Button filler, Fine or EF nib. Came in the (possibly) original box with a matching pencil. Sort of a 2nd-tier Duofold, more slender and with a smaller nib. Fairly collectible, I think.

Thanks for the suggestion. I always check with this site first and it doesn't help with this particular date code for a UK Duofold Maxima.

If your pen has an ‘aerometric’ filler, it is from 1958.
In 1953 the filling system on Newhaven’s Duofolds was changed to the ‘aerometric’ one from the Parker “51”.

I got my information from http://parkerpens.net/ukduofold.html

Edit to add:

Something from that site that I ‘managed to’ miss :headsmack:: if your pen is a Duofold Maxima, it must be from 1958 anyway, as the ‘Maxima’ model wasn’t produced until 1958.

Rather nice Parker 75 in extremely good condition, seems very little used.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have been quiet on the FPN for awhile, I picked up the following Parkers [ In Feb ] from a co-worker who's dad worked at Parker for many years.

He was just going to give me the cigar box full of pens for nothing. When I came into work one morning my boss handed me the box he dropped off that morning.

Looking thru the box I had to give him something for the pens [ goodwill ]. I had 3 gift cards with me and gave them all to him. This way if his father and him come across anymore pens

he may have forgotten about they know I will pay for them. Well here is what I have.

A pair of P51's  one a DJ

A few 1st year Jotters

A good lot of pens for what I paid.

I was fortunate to attend a pen show to find this beauty - a Vacuum Filler Demonstrator “Not for Sale”.

I have been lucky to previously find a Vac Crystal and a Silver Vacuum Filler. I had assumed the Demonstrator was similar to the Vac Crystal. I was surprised to find it was a vacuum filler.

Like other demonstrator I just assumed that these pens were clear to show the inner workings of the pen, I never thought that the demonstrator would be a fully functional pen, similar to the Vac Crystal.

I am guessing the Vac Crystal came after the Demonstrator, otherwise why not just use the Crystal as a demonstration pen.

One learns something new everyday. Three great early pens.

Last month I bought a ‘Made in France’ Parker 75, for reasons of personal nostalgia.

I expected to not like it.

But I have found it - & its ‘M’ nib - to be an absolute delight to write with 😊

So I decided that I needed to own one with an ‘F’ nib, and in a design that I find to be ‘prettier’ than the one I bought for nostalgic reasons.

Today, the postie arrived chez moi with this:

Shiny pen is shiny 😊

Writes beautifully too 😎

A very pretty pen that I’m glad you enjoy. For some reason I only like M nibs on these 75’s. Have yet to find a F nib that works well for me.
