What Parkers Have Joined Your Collection Lately?

I recently bought this green marble Mk 1 Centennial with flat trim rings, short engraved clip, and a #82 fine nib in the early style with the gold content numbers on the edges of the nib, rotated to be read from the side of the nib.  The "IN" (3rd quarter 1989) date code is on the cap just above the rings, on the side opposite the clip.

I love the color, which is rumored on the Web to have been exclusive to American Express (and maybe a bank or two) when this pen was made.

I just can't help buying Parker 65s.

The 51 is clearly the most iconic Parker, and probably the most iconic fountain pen of all time.  But somehow the 65 is just a bit more fancy, a bit smarter and more exclusive. That nib makes it irresistible. So any Parker 65 under £30 seems like an absolute bargain to me, a cast iron investment, and I'm unable to resist.

No pix yet, but I picked up what I *think* is an early Vacumatic Junior (two cap bands, and it's a lockdown filler), although most of the images I seen of the Juniors so far seem to have the bands a bit closer together.  Couldn't find a date code (it may have worn off, although there was something a bit away from the imprint that looked as if it MIGHT have been a 1....

Of course the real fun is to see if I can find any info about the name engraved on the barrel, which appears to be "F.H. ILLIG" (I say "appears" because it almost looks as if there was some slight error on the part of the engraver -- that the second "I" was originally started as some other letter...).

These Parkers turned up in the wild recently. Nothing too exciting apart from the super clean Maxima Vacumatic. The small green marble pen next to the Forest Green 51 is a Webster, which I believe was made by Parker. I don't really collect Parkers, but I can't pass them up when I find them cheap.

Mission Accomplished!

I was hoping to find a good home for the green marble Webster, the green marble Parker Challenger, and the blue Parker Zephyr, since I only planned to keep the other five. The neighbors have some teenagers and they are all art students, so I wrapped them up (the pens, not the kids!) and sent them around as early Christmas presents.

Who knows, they may like them and get the bug!

Nice! Is than a cocoa, or is it actually a salmon color as the photos make it appear to be?

Cocoa, the pen actually looks much browner in person. The color shift is a know Apple product problem. The online guide to vintage Parker 51s has pictures of them both as pictured by PCs and by Apple. Currently one of Apple ‘s competitors is highlighting this in an advertising campaign. It is a particularly annoying problem regarding skin tones.

Given that I am surfing on an iPad, that certainly makes sense!

And the pictures were taken with an iPhone.

Still a nice pen in an uncommon color.

It did come with a personalized imprint on the barrel, but, I had a spare unimprinted barrel that was a match to the hood, so for now it is as pictured and I feel good about both recently finding a good pen in the wild and about buying a low cost parts lot a while back.

Now to find some other parts for some other pens.

Yes, I like the Cocoa color, I think it has a charming warmth to it, although I would call it milk chocolate rather than cocoa. I once tried to duplicate that color in an ink with Kiwi Ink's custom ink creator, but it didn't actually turn out very close.

This arrived today: 45 Flighter Special GT (correct?), Maroon/Burgundy end cap & section (the red is a bit darker than what is shown in the photo), Made in USA (on the cap and nib), 10k X nib (true to width), dimpled clip screw, plastic barrel inner, the last squeeze converter version (I think). It is inked but appears to be in excellent condition.

Questions, please:

Hello.

Information about colors has recently been shared since this post.

Another is this.

By browsing these, you can see that it is a valuable pen.

A mighty nice present indeed! I have long had one of these on my list, but I fear I’ll never find one in the condition I want at a reasonable price.
