P61 MkIII Fligher GT (England)

Now I am looking for the same but earlier capillary P61 Flighter ...

I need a Flighter 61 again. I had a plain Sterling model that was an Argentina creation, but foolishly traded it away. Also need one of those 45 TX models!

A 2nd quarter 1947 Parker 51 in cordovan brown. Maintenance history unknown, but the diaphragm is pliable and draws water. Still probably going to have it checked out before I put it into regular rotation.

During last weeks there were a few 61 Flighters (England) in rather decent condition listed at reasonable price on eBay this side of the pond...

The Mk III P61 has the same great nib but in a c/c config? So it's definitely going to be nicer, on average, than the P45 it resembles in that configuration?

Yes, P61 MkIII differs from MkI and MkII in having c/c instead of capillary filler.

Besides, it has a different inner cap design that caused some damages to a section and higher chances of damage/removal of an arrow.

But it sports the same excellent nibs as capillary 61s.

IMO, P61 is much superior pen to 45, but people may have different opinion and that is absolutely fine.

Thanks. That's all as I suspected, but I did not know about the cap issue. I do know about the arrows getting lost.

I've received a Duette Brocade. It has the wrong nib, but it is otherwise in pristine condition.

from Tony's website:

"In 1969 the legendary capillary filling system was discontinued in favour of mk III, a cartridge/converter fillied pen in the manner of the Parker "45". The capillary "61" was one of the last Parker models that didn't take converters. The inner cap was also redesigned this year, but the new design proved catastrofic since it fit so snug to the section that it sometimes scratched the inlaid arrow or even dislocated it. The connector was now in black plastic and the barrel threads was also different."

Kind sir, I don’t know you other than to say I’ve seen you post over  my 12+ years here, but your collection of 51’s must be amazing. It makes me look completely tame.

I should be very interested to know why you think this. I might even agree with you; but some P45s are pretty good in my experience.

Yes. I bought one of them. It was crudded up with a suspicious black ink that dried on a paper towel with a yellow/orange component; but after the dilute amonia and soap treatment, it is now working perfectly.

Two more Parker Vectors arrived in the mail.  Both were cases where eBay sellers discounted the price to sell them, making offers that I thought were good deals.  Both are US production (which is pretty unusual for my stash -- most of mine are UK production except for a couple of NOS Geometric pattern designs and one re-issued French production one bought new a year or two back).  Both are dark blue (although one is so dark as to almost be black); both are marked as "2" on the feed (not sure whether or not that means "F"); and neither seem to have a date code.

I'll have to harvest converters from other Vectors for the time being, to get them flushed out (one has a dead cartridge in it) or else dig out a couple of the cheapie slide converters as a temporary measure until I can get more twist/piston converters.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
