Sailor Manyo Haha

I love this ink, but in most of my pens, it's rather difficult to read. I wish it's a bit more saturated so I can use it on daily basis.

Thanks for your review, would you mind telling me which pen (or generally which kind of pen) you used to write the bigger cursive titles?

Pelikan M1000 broad. Check the first line..

I mean, what I understood was, the first half of the "sample" section was written in M1000, but that's much thinner line than the fancy cursive title. That's why I got confused.

It’s still the M1000 Broad. It’s a very soft and flexible nib.

I have a love-hate relationship with this ink. It is unbelievably fussy about which pen it will write in. It requires an extremely wet writer and a very broad nib to work best, but then of course it looses a lot of its subtlety. All of these colour shifting pale inks have been problematic, but the Manyo series hasn't been that successful in my view either. Kikyou and Nekonyanagi were both extremely dry inks and actually really horrible to use. Akebi has lovely saturation and good flow, but in a weird way that I don't quite understand has next to no lubrication making even the smoothest of nibs feel like writing on sandpaper.* There was another in the range that I had and it would just dry up and stop altogether even in the wettest of pens. Sadly I can't recall what it was but I gave it away instantly because I found it so dreadful. It's a pity because the colours themselves are great.

 

*Quite a few of the Sailor Studio line that I've tried have similar problems.

Have you tried adding a little bit of flow aid? Made a huge amount of difference to mine, as well as to the very sec kyo-n-oto's that I love the colours of so much.

Thanks for the paper recommendation. I'd never heard of yoseka before, I'm excited to try it with ha ha!

i bought this ink last year after searching for a new light blue... it really is beautiful but needs a broad for both legibility and character.   I've never seen the reddish sheen tho...   It's spring time in California... time to ink something up with it.
