… and not any more, not even after I logged into my account. The price is now US$627; all the prices of the items in my cart from before have been adjusted. That's actually beneficial to me, because it quashes my irrational FOMO — on a very good deal in the market, but on a pen I don't really love the look of all that much.

I got my Aurora 8"88" Giove from them for about US$400 back in October, so I'm very happy with that and should think myself content.

I went through a similar moment of indecision about the pen on

Endlesspens. The prices kept changing and I gave up, happy to have overcome my fomo

And the black one is $473 with their CLEARANCE5 coupon, today only.

And I didn't have the heart to tell her why.
And there wasn't a part of me that didn't want to say goodbye.

I have really loved the blue lapis since I first saw it. For the price i feel obligated to be more picky, and I simply have no more use for “normal” pens. :( I will have to settle for my vintage lady duofold in lapis (which likes to burp ink into its cap- not very ladylike).

Now even less than that, with the code that was sent out in this morning's newsletter.

It seems nobody wants the black one with a rose gold EF nib, even at below US$475.

Edit: I think it finally sold for US$448 in the last few hours.

Yeah I need a Black one, I am waiting on the green with a BB nib (Nib is on backorder), and the Blue is one of my favorites.

I ordered the green on 26th of November 2020 and as of today (9th Feb 2021) I'm still waiting - I chose an oblique medium. Just out of interest, how long did you have to wait for yours?

The Internazionale from Aurora is a modern recreation of the Internazionale model from the 1930s,

Thank you for a great review!

Tiny detail for the purists ... I believe the current Internazionale is replica of the 1930s "Duplex", not the 1930s Internazionale?

I’m no expert on vintage pens but my understanding is that this pen is a re-issue of the 1930s Aurora Duplex Internazionale. The Aurora Duplex was the standard pen sold in Italy and the Duplex Internazionale was a more upmarket version intended for selling internationally beyond Italy. Only the Internazionale had the intricate floral designs on the pen clip and band.

Would love to learn more from anybody with greater knowledge of these early Aurora pen models.

I bought the blue one a couple of months back and immediately sent it to Auroa for service. It seems that many of these pen caps have manufacturer defects with the 3 gold rings. Many of them have wiggly instead of straight bands that are crooked. Very noticeable on inspection. How many of you have this defect with your pen?

Also, I noticed that the feeder on mine is very loose. You can easily move it back and forth below the nib. Does anyone else have this problem? Or is that normal for Aurora nibs?

Those rings are made with hand forged gilt silver (Vermeil), so I'm guessing the "artisanal style" is intentional. The [black resin] one I have, looks quite similar.

You might want to screw the nib unit a little bit tighter into the section. It comes rather loose from the factory that I've found, in order to be aligned with the hot stamp on the body.

So I guess you didn't mind the crooked ring that looks like someone unskilled created it? I would imagine that someone skilled would be able to create a ring that's perfect all the way around, especially when you've paid so much for the pen?

The nib is on tight. I was referring to the feeder being loose when I remove it to inspect it. The tip of the feeder seems to be a bit loose within the nib unit. By tip I mean the spot where it lists the nib size. If you grab it with your finger you can easily move it back and forth from side to side.

I'm very sorry about what I read in your text and about what I can see at your photo! :(

This must be the peak of bad luck. I hope very much you get a perfect replacement without any troubles.

I bought 5 Aurora fountain pens (3 Optima, 2 Mamba 88) so far and never experienced even the most minor problem. All pen bodies were perfect, all piston mechanisms were smooth, all nibs (different sizes from "flex" over F and M to stub and goccia) were great! I'm also at the fence lurking for an Internationale. It is only the restrictive price that keeps me hesitating.

One life!

I guess I have bad luck then...😕 Let's see what they will return. The U.S. service handler for Aurora, Kenro Industries, wanted $35 from me to send the pen back to Italy for service. You would think that this would be covered but they apparently will charge $35 just to look at your pen. They also serve Esterbrook Pens.

Please take a look at the photos attached to the opening post of this thread and tell me what you see 🙂

In my experience with Auroras, if the nib unit is not fully tightened down, the nib tends to slightly skew left and right relative to the feeder. If the feeder itself is loose inside the collar (i.e. moves freely up and down inside the housing), then I guess you got a lemon indeed. That's unfortunate, and must be quite a rare occurrence with the brand.

Edit: Please check if the collar is flush (or slightly lower) with the lip of the section. That should be an indication of whether your nib assy is tight enough for the nib -not the feed- not to turn around.

Oh, yea, I do see that yours are a bit wiggly as well but not as bad as mine which is also deeply tarnished.

Unfortunately, the pen is now in Aurora's possession. I'll have to wait until I get it back to see what they're able to do for me. I've owned Pelikans since the 80's so I know how the screw down nibs work. I made sure that this was in pretty tight and the feeder still appeared to be more loose than all of the pens I've owned, 20-30 in my lifetime.

Thanks for the detailed review  with the emphasis on your subjective feelings about the pen. I have a collection of Optimas and concur with your opinions on the cachet these beautiful pens posess. The Aureloide feels lovely to the touch and looks amazing, as well; I've only been slightly disappointed with a couple of them, as far as the looks go. The fit and finish is superb on all, though one seems to have a bit of a baby's bottom. After a few years focused on Pelikan, I'm glad to have discovered these beautiful pens.

You mentioned that yours are numbered editions and that's something that I've thought about often. I have a few LEs which have runs of 365/366 units and some Caleidoscopios, too, which number into the 800's. I would think that these beauties would be snapped up quickly but that doesn't seem to be the case for the most part. The picking were a little slim for the Luce Gialla I just got, and I ended up with an EF becqause it was over $100 less than the others for sale and the dark red from a few years back have been gone for a while, even used ones.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.
