Well, at least we had fun!

Interesting, definitely would not have guessed about Stipula IG Rosso.

That line of IG inks was of great interest to me last year. I scoured the internet for any writing samples, with very little success. Based on my personal experience with a sample of Seppia, I was intrigued by the beautiful rich color of that ink, but very disappointed by poor water resistance and seemingly non-existent IG content. Then I read reports of some other colors having very poor flow, like the black and blue-black. So I held off. The red looks like it dries to a kind of warm purple, which is usually not my color. I do love the results shown here mixed with other inks, to give more of a burgundy-maroon range--that's more in the realm of colors I enjoy seeing on my pages.

The fact this went to 7 pages because someone actually had to choose one ink is mind numbing!

Hey, well, we're ink nerds and we're bored, after being cooped up because we're being told to "shelter in place". After all, it's only a single thread. I remember repeated threads a number of years ago about some eBay listing about a vintage "Bock" pen (well, I guess it was a Bock nib, at least) where the seller was asking a five figure price AND an additional $15K US for shipping....

Good job InkedSophie.

I have no Stipula inks. There were a lot of inks listed I have never tried or some heard of. Thank you the Wondrous amberleadavis for this romp through what did she grab.

One thread that went on for pages and pages was Kas emptying a bottle of Iroshizuku. It probably had the excitement for outsiders of grass growing. But it was fun to follow.

I think if somebody did a video of the ink actually traveling through the feed, to the tip of the nib and onto the paper, I'd be interested and watch it... possibly at different speeds, too. While other people would probably consider that almost as boring as watching paint dry... (which on a molecular level would probably also be interesting to see...) :D

Well, uh, yeah, but since you have been one of my enablers, you have yourself to blame a little. :P

That being said, I still spend time looking at Dromgoole's website.

If you find it, I want to watch it. (@Fuzzy, I guess, I would watch paint dry at this point).

I'm responding to what I see in the thread in a notepad as I go. Don't know how I missed this for three days.

When I saw the writing sample, I thought, "Noodler's Red-Black?"

But I now doubt that. It's a brand you're not a fan of, so that's out. Large bottle, easy to grab, noted for permanence.

OH no I never meant to give that impression, I am a huge fan of Noodler's. Some of their inks are among my very favorites of all time. My current absolute favorite ink is MaoXi, and I adored Plymouth Wilderness.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!

That was going to be one of my very first guesses! But Stipula IG Red is still available. I got fouled up thinking it was a unobtainium or limited ink color. And your writing sample doesn't really look mine. Mine looks redder than your initial writing samples. UGH!

Stipula inks are one of my very favorites. If I had been your shoes and could have grabbed two inks, I would have grabbed my Montblanc Unicef and Stipula Florentine Red.

LOL, you could have blurted it out, but my IG red always looked purple or brown and it is nicely water resistant once it dries, but is lovely to doodle with because it has terrific washes.

Dear Amberleadavis,

Would you mind posting some writing samples made with plain Stipula IG Rosso, without other inks mixed in? I'd love to see what you mean about it looking purple or brown. Presumably it varies based on paper used, and perhaps illumination. I got turned away from that ink thinking it was going to be a warm red-purple, which I'm not a fan of. Something closer to Diamine Syrah or Colorverse Dark Energy is more of my dark off-red of choice.

You were the one who helped me find Dromgooles and two of the inks I hoard - Tanned Armadillo and Comanche Rouge (which just got replaced by Maoxi).

I will once my photos load from my phone. The one that says Sheaffer is about dead on at this point, the cartridge was empty but I did not wash out the black, so it is not perfect. Again, I will upload. Now others may have different experiences.

I didn’t participate in this thread (I don’t have a lot of experience with different inks), but I have thoroughly enjoyed following it. Very entertaining and I’ve learned a lot!
