Perhaps an ink that I have been using quite frequently lately.....

Edelstein Olivine

But then that might be to muted for Amber....

What is that Dromgoole's exclusive? Blue Steel or Texas Bluebonnet.

Bright enough, but blue enough for filings.

I REALLY wanted to grab my bottle of MaoXi because it is the most amazing ink I own. I have it inked up in 1 pen right now, but I thought it would probably not mix well, and I don't know how light fast it is.

Blue Steel is my fuss free ink but I didn't even think of either of those lovely Dromgoole inks. I almost grabbed Noodler's Plymouth which is an amazing green, but I didn't know how well it might mix.

And I should say that I am surprised at you, Amberleadavis! I would have thought that you kept duplicates or triplicates of all your inks at home. Doesn't every attorney keep multiple copies?

BTW, I am still thinking, pondering on what would be the one ink that Amberleadavis would grab on the way out the door. This ink touches heart strings. Hmmm what could it be?

I keep very few duplicates. I bought this ink even though I have historically not been a fan of the brand. When I bought this ink it was an amazing sale and once I tried it, I was sad I had not purchased a back up, but it is a large bottle. *yes that is a hint or two*.

All of my inks are in boxes, which hold a dozen or more inks. So I would grab a box. Probably would grab the box with the inks from Pen and Message, Style Dee Delta, and some Kingdom Note inks. This is probably a dozen inks. There is a larger box with the Kobe's, Maruzen Athena, Ishida Bungu, and Sankodo inks, with some Kyoto TAG inks thrown in. There's a good number of inks in that box.

I just can't imagine having to pick one ink. My guess is you picked a permanent blue ink, in case any work items were needed. Good luck and stay healthy.

I did pick a permanent ink, but not blue. Serious color but not blue.

Blue Steel?

Any ink I grabbed would have to be usable in any pen including some of my century old vintage pens so I would probably take Monteverde Horizon Blue.

Great guess, but I didn't even think about, even though I walked over the Noodler's cabinet.

If I was in a time crunch it would probably be my bottle of Sailor Souboku. My favorite ink is still Sailor Rikyu-cha, but the distinctive packaging (for quick ID) and practicality of Souboku would make that my choice.

I love my Sailor inks, I think my favorite might be the jelly fish, but it is not a Sailor ink.

Diamine Majestic Blue?

I gave a serious look at the Diamine choices while I was looking at Noodler's. I almost grabbed Pansy but thought it might be too bright.

thinking about choosing a single ink, and actually doing it within a minute, are quite different things.

i'm currently using some no name brand, royal blue. most probably it's rebranded pelikan 4001. and that would be my choice, if i had to pick one under a gun.

however, there is enough space for more than a dozen ink bottles in a drawer both at home, and in my company office, and i use it. only one duplicate, pelikan 4001 RB :-)

guess it wouldn't be your choice.

on the other hand, sailor (jentle) doyou might be a good candidate, too: it's prominently featured in the front row, and it's a voluminous bottle (easy to grab).

stay healthy, and keep the morale.

I looked at the Pelikan inks and grabbed my Pelikan cartridges. Turns out that big bottle and easy to grab was a factor.

Pilot black or blue-black.

The going home is to work from home (or break the bank). If you have to sign or fill in legal documents I fear you need to go for a well-behaved ink that can be used in formal documents. So, no fancy colors, and a need for permanence. If you expect to be working from home, you will want something that can go in a large bottle to ensure your supply of ink for a possibly extended 45 day period. Pilot black or blue black fits the bill.

An alternative would be a Noodler's ink in formal color, bulletproof, and large bottle, that works well on bad, cheap copy paper, like X-feather.

Me, I have my inks at home, and at work I only had now a bottle of Koh-i-Noor document black and a bottle of Koh-i-Noor document blue. But they are too dry. If I were to pick one ink, I would have to choose between Noodler's Lexington Grey, Noodler's Baystate Blue or Montblanc Permanent Blue, and the winner, certainly, would be Montblanc Permanent Blue (it is close to BSB, formal, permanent and well behaved, and I have a large bottle.

YES, good guesses.

Serious color *for me* big bottle doesn't feather and permanent.

I didn't choose a blue.

I looked at my BSB longingly but it does not mix well. I didn't even consider the MB inks because they are generally too dry for my tastes.

I also gave serious thought to the De Atramentis Dockument inks and the Kohl I Noor inks but did not choose either brand.

Bay State Blue? :)

Totally good guess, I stared at it longingly.

I have never had to choose a single ink.

If I had to, I would go for Diamine Oxford Blue right away. My go to blue ink. But maybe Pilot blue. I like that too.

Those are nice inks.

Dear Amber,

I would choose ESSRI.

The classic blue-black, a perfect match to most of my vintage Swans, my most used ink...

Stay well

Jens

I think ESSRI is a gem, but it is too dry for my usual tastes. It also looks lovely in those Swans.

I am always fascinated by these questions because I would like to settle down on one ink eventually. But I can never really decide and switch things up...good thing that I can actually change to another ink when I feel the itch.

But if I had to choose one bottle from my collection, I am pretty sure that it would be KWZ Iron Gall Blue Black, or at least a shootout between this one and Pilot Blue Black or Shin-Kai.

Would depend on the other circumstances, too. If I would keep only my Custom 823, then the KWZ would likely lose to the other two. Maybe I would choose Shin-Kai then.

Stay healthy.

I don't want to settle down to one ink, but when the chips were down, I chose an ink that was a good base to add to other colors, but I wanted permanence.

I gave a serious look at my KWZI inks and almost grabbed Violet #4 and Blue #4 but Konrad told me when he made them that they would not be especially fade resistant even if they are wonderfully water resistant.

I would grab R&K Dokumentus Brown because it's waterproof enough for a wash of watercolour, but warmer and softer than the usual black, so it blends well for pretty much any drawing. It's dark enough to write serious stuff, but I could paint with it. I would have to paint to stay sane. I could make pen and wash portraits of the people I love with just that one. It would be good for journaling to deal with my monkey mind. And good for letter writing.to keep in touch with the people I couldn't visit. I could manage with just that one.

Not what Amber would choose, I'm sure.

I gave a look at R&K Dehli because it is such a wonderful ink, but I did chose an ink that will wash so long as it is wet. Then I forgot the waterbrush pens.

For me there is one ink to rule them all, performance-wise, although the "colour" ... well, it's black. But I know it is the most dependable ink and definitely works in ALL my pens:

J. Herbin Perle noire

(How sad a thought. ONE INK ONLY! Why!?!!!??)

@amberleadavis: Did you chose for prettiness or practicality?

I was looking for something that would be water resistant, fade resistant and that I wouldn't get totally sick of in 3 days.

Iro Kon-Piki

Lovely ink. I chose something more somber *again, I would not have thought I would choose somber.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Luckily I don't have many inks and what I have fits neatly together in a box.

It would either be a blue or a black for me. But I guess I would reach for my bottle of Visconti Blue after all :).

Visconti blue would have been a good choice, but it is not permanent.

Jeez, I have no idea which ink Amberlea chose. The suspense!

Me, I'm grabbing Noodler's Black.

Good choice!

If it were me?

Either Pelikan 4001 Blue Black

Or for something a little more playful....

Levenger Cobalt Blue or Pomegranate.

I didn't even think about my Levenger inks which is a shame because I love them. I did grab my Levenger cartridges.

If I had to choose today, it would e Iroshizuku Asa-Gao. But maybe Namiki Blue, or ......

(But definitely a blue ink).

I didn't choose a blue, but I do adore Asa-Gao.

I am guessing Kung te Cheng.

Just a feeling.

I don't know why it didn't cross my mind. Perhaps because it wasn't in my fight path? That really seems like the ink I should have chosen. I mean it is Armageddon proof.

I assume any reasonable person would pick black, black-blue or blue.

For a person with lots of hope...a bright cheerful color.

A pessimistic person, a deep and dark color.

For Amberlea ... Apache Sunrise?

:) I adore you, and of course, I'm not a reasonable person when it comes to ink.

You are right, that I didn't choose a blue, black or blue-black.

I initially grabbed for BSB, Maoxi, and Lamy Dark Violet. I didn't choose any of them.

My one ink would be Sailor Kobe Suma Purple.

I'm guessing that Amber chose a blue, because attorneys have to use blue for certain purposes. I'll agree with Kung Te Cheng.

What perplexes me is why multiple pens and an assortment of cartridges but only one bottle of ink?

Ah, because I had them inked and didn't want them to dry out. I grabbed cartridges because I can fill them with a syringe (which I then forgot) and I am writing on different papers so different pens are nice. Also, as my hands hurt, I can change pens which make the writing experience different.

R&K Salix

I don't know if I own a bottle. I'll give another hint. It was not Scabiosa either.

I'm kinda with mhguda -- I'm betting that, much as Amberlea loves her eye-searing inks, I'm also betting that it would be Kung Te Cheng. But as a backup/alternate, I'm thinking that it might be Noodler's Eel Red.

Me? I shudder to think. Much as my gut reaction would be KTC, I suspect I'd cop out and go for an iron gall ink -- maybe KWZI IG Blue-Black or IG Blue #3 -- or something like Sailor Souboku.

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

At the last minute, I did cop out. I put BACK my retina searing Maoxi and BSB and my beloved invisible Ghost Blue.

Here's a random guess: Emerald of Chivor?

EofC is my least favorite sparkly, but I seriously looked at a bunch of other sparkly inks. At the last minute, I decided no sparkle because I wasn't sure how the various pens would act with sparkly ink and I don't have all my pen cleaning supplies at home.

Except...

...which to me kinda rules out KTC, BSB, and even Noodler's Eel Red.

Otherwise, I'm utterly clueless.

Those ware inks I would have thought I would choose.

I would suggest that amberlea's choice would be something than can not be easily replaced - a limited edition ink.

I am going suggest something like Montblanc Ink of Love or Montblanc Winterglow.

OH dang, I should have thought of those.

Yes, I chose a hard to find / replace ink.

If I were in the same shoes at Amberlea (which, thankfully, I am not. My office is already in my home.), I would grab all of my stub and italic pens, a bunch of ink cartridges, and Montblanc Unicef Blue. The reason is that I know I can get pretty much every other ink that I have except for my limited edition inks. The ink cartridges I could use in my cartridge converter pens, but I only have 3 piston fillers and I have used Unicef Blue in all three with great success. I would also grab my Nanami journals as well, though.

Yep, I grabbed the stub/italic pens that already head ink or needed to be cleaned, a handful of cartridges and the one ink. At the last minute, I also forgot my journal.

The title of this topic pulled me up short and made me gasp.

If you found The Day After to be traumatising then, as your Attorney, I advise you to NEVER even think about watching its British equivalent, Threads :yikes:

Just reading the first few ‘User Reviews’ will tell you why I say that.

Getting back to your questions, given that you say that the ink that you chose was totally unexpected, my guess at the identity of the one ink that you chose is: Noodler’s Black.

I would also like to add that are are right to quote the Cat - two suits is dead! :D

ETA: For my own ‘one ink’, I would probably go with R&K Salix. Even though it is about as lightfast as Count Orlok.

I like its iron-gall tight lines and lack of bleed-though, and I love its shading.

I saw Threads, and you are right I was further traumatized. Do not watch these movies during this time of the virus.

Salix and Scabiosa are closer than I would have guessed about myself.

Is that your one ink?

It looks like it might be Waterman ‘Absolute’ Brown (aka the artist formerly known as ‘Havana’) :o

Actually those are different colors that I have mixed with the one ink. The color is also off because of the light.

I had a desiccated but not yet tapped Pelikan Red mini international cartridge. The mix that looks brown is 1:20 Red to Mystery Ink.

The brighter purple ink is an empty fill of Solfarino that I just added mystery ink to the cartridge.

The darker purple is an empty cartridge of Sheaffer black to which I added the mystery ink.

And finally, the green ink, is just Sheaffer green ink.

Hmm. Hard to tell. Looks kinda like KWZI Brown Pink, but maybe too brown? Hmmm.

ETA: Nice choice though. Browns are surprisingly enjoyable! :)

PS: Nice quote! (Was so busy looking at the ink I didn't read at first.)

It turned out to be a beautiful brown.

My kind of color!

YES.

Someone around here guessed Ghost Blue -- I can't find the post.

it does look purple to me!

All alone it is not a purple, but mixed with Solfarino it is a beautiful purple.

Did a little seaching around. Best guess is Diamine Tyrian Purple

The color is similar.

BTW, you are all making me feel very cheerful.

I had to go to the office last night.

I brought back Monkey Hanger because it was easily accessible, almost empty and would look nice on a lot of the cards.

On my next trip, I think I will grab Sargasso Sea or Billberry (Diamine), Maoxi and Ghost Blue (Noodler's), Cardinal Red and maybe Cobalt (Levenger) and R&K Dehli.

I'm going to guess it was the dregs bottle. The one whose colour is almost but not entirely unlike black.

What about Robert Oster Hippo Purple?

I don't own that one. I looked at the RO bottles and they would have been a good choice, but since the color isn't immediately apparant, it required to much thinking. I didn't have long.

Is it a Super5, maybe gray?

Nope, but when I went back to the office, I picked up Super5 Dehli.

I am going to really go out on a limb and suggest your brown ink is Akkerman #23 Bekakt Haags.

It comes in a big bottle, and has some water resistance to it. It doesn't offer a lot of shading which your writing sample suggests.

But then again it could be Bungubox Valentine's Chocolate.

I'm stumped.

It is not an Akkerman ink, though it is a great bottle.

It is also not a brown, that seems to be a result of mixing it with the red ink. It looks purple when I added magenta and it looks brown when I add red.

The color is listed as RED, but don't believe it.

In guessing, I am not sure of which inks are easily available.

Is gray out as a color guess?

If that is a question within the game to ask.

The color is officially described as RED, but that's a lie, because whatever color it is - is not RED. I mean maybe if it were a red wine? I'm not sure. I would call it a purple, but the official name of the ink is RED.
