Sleeper Pen

When I was working, I used Montblancs and Parker 51s. Nobody ever asked or wanted to inquire about them. I would not have made an explanation anyway. An under the radar fountain pen is ridiculous.

An under the radar fountain pen is a great idea for the work place. No sense in drawing attention to the fact that you might keep valuable and expensive items at your desk. To be that's a good way to get yerself good and robbed.

I remember once I was using a Century Classic ballpoint in one of our showrooms. I was taking down measurements for a window vinyl I was going to order. Made a note, put down the pen and my padfolio on the hood of a car, turned my back to take a measurement. Came back to find a coffee cup ring on the hood of the car beside my pad, and a missing pen.

Yeah ok, it wasn't an expensive pen, but the point is that it was obviously flashy enough to have drawn attention to it'self. Not sure what made me use the Century that day- I just felt like it. But I'm glad it wasn't something more valuable.

By contrast, in more than 5 years of use I've had someone notice my Lamy 2000 for what it was once. It never gets a second look. Not even the steel one.

That is a well loved pen!

It IS unfortunate, if you like your pens to look shiny and new, or if you wanted to maintain resale value... But awesome if you enjoy things that show some use and clearly are used for what they were made for.

I once wore off some of the chrome on a Fisher Space Pen in a former life when a fountain pen was wholly inappropriate for day to day work carry, but a pencil or space pen were perfect for the job.

Also, to echo the above: you have enviable hand writing. Palmer method/business writing? It's very nice!

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

Well, I use a Lamy 2000 at work and people are ALWAYS saying, "Ooh, that's a nice pen!"

Mind you, I work in an environment where few of my digital native colleagues use any kind of writing implement at all.

Lined paper makes a prison of the page.

Pilot VP or Platinum Curidas. The Curidas is made of semitransparent plastic that looks the almost the same to some gel pens. Another one can be one of those Daiso fountain pens that are also made of blue semitransparent plastic and have a tiny nib .

Well, thanks for that explanation Gclef. I guess I’m going to print out your writings here and look for some of your other posts so I can practice emulating your mashup style.

I had a nurse co-worker try out a Wing Sung 601 I was using. She wrote with it and smiled. I said happy birthday. I need to swap out the Waterman blue for black tomorrow. :)

The Parker Vector is another pretty low key pen, especially if you get the brushed metal Flighter version. The one I have writes remarkably smoothly. I used to keep one on my desk pen stand and it never got taken...because it sat next to a Sharpie.

I never thought of a Parker vector, I was leaning towards a wing sung 601. I would rather have a cartridge converter though.

Actually, I think the Parker 51 Flighter would be perfect. All steel so no obvious cap, and a hidden nib. Can't get much better than that. (Well, I guess you could replace the tassie with a fake push-button....)

Hey Shark- send me a PM with your address. I'm retiring and i will never use my Vector again. You can have it if you want it.
