Namiki Emperor No. 50 Nib Sizes With Writing Samples

I am doing some research on this, and there are only a handful examples that I have found.

Obviously the best way to have a more comprehensive overview is to have the same person with the same ink to do a writing comparison between the available nibs, but this is a bit of a stretch-out scenario.

So, could you please upload some writing examples with your nib sizes, I am more interested in the F (Fine) and FM (Fine Medium) region.

Intend to use it, as an note taking instrument.

Although the F is not being manufactured any more from Pilot/Namiki, the FM has taken its place.

Any help would be very much appreciated, I have experience with Pilot nibs in the F region from 823 and 845, but these are No. 15 size nibs and although they could be taken as a rule of thumb, wanted some re-assurance from the actual users.

Thank you!

This is a really good question. My emperor is stored away and I have to go hunt it down. In the mean time, an owners observation if you could indulge me.

We as modern fountain pen users are so spoiled by the consistency in line that comes from the use of modern plastic feeds and efficient filling systems that we some times forget that older filling systems like the eyedropper does have a considerable effect on line width. Especially when you're going for a much finer grind. Things like air pressure during the day of writing, the wetness or dryness of the ink and also how much ink you have in the barrel affects the thickness. As would whether the stopper valve is open or closed.

If you need a very fine line that is always consistent, the emperor is not the pen for you as you will find it extremely temperamental.

gerigo, thank you for this information. May I ask if the Emperor can burp if the shut off valve is left wide open?

Yes definitely. But most people will keep it screwed in when the pen is not in use.

Thank you, gerigo. That's good to know. I've debated between a Namiki Emperor and a Nakaya with c/c. This will be taken into consideration.

Yes definitely. But most people will keep it screwed in when the pen is not in use.

I dont think emperor comes with a Fine nib. It starts from FM.

I can share a writing sample of FM, but I would inform beforehand that the pen has gone through 3-4 bottles worth of ink. So the flow is heavy, and it writes broader than a usual FM.

This is correct. The #50 starts in FM width, as per pilot-namiki.com. I would be very interested in your writing sample. I have a #20 in M and when I will order/get my #50 I might opt for either FM or M. So your example would help. Thanks in advance.
