I have a 743 with a Falcon nib and it railroads.  Lovely nib but I do not use it often.

Thanks for the reply!

I asked flexiblenib and was told the 743 series feeder they offer fits all size 15 Pilot nibs except the music nib. So I’ll risk it, buy the pen and buy the feeder, that should prevent the railroading by higher inkflow.

First post here, Hello!

Maybe someone can help me. I have a hard time deciding on a Pilot 845 with Falcon nib, offered used but like new to me, bought from this very shop in Japan.

Actually I wanted to buy a Pilot 743 with a Falcon nib and add the ebonite feed that’s offered by flexiblenib, since I read so many reviews that it’s necessary for the ink flow.

Can anyone tell me how the Pilot 845 keeps up with the ink flow with a Falcon nib? Is it still enjoyable to write with the line variation with the plastic feed? I fear railroading.

Dear GoldenBear,

I have an 823 from TQPS with a #15 FA nib that is the same one used on the 845. I bought the ebonite feed from flexiblenibs, but ultimately decided not to install it. My pen never railroads, even when I stress test it (granted, I do not go to extremes). On the other hand, it is possible, though I cannot say it conclusively, that the plunger filling mechanism on the 823 is providing for a better flow than the converter on the 845.

Thank you, Wadude! I also have a 823, but I bought it from the Netherlands with a Medium nib (I’m in Germany). You may be right, the converter could be provide less flow than the 823. Since TQPS tested the nib, maybe he made sure it works fine. I bought the pen now since the price was very fair. I can report back end of the week when I tested it (without going extreme ^^)..

I think you made a good choice. I hope your experience with them is as good as mine was and you receive a perfectly tuned pen. If you can, do give us your impressions when you get to test it.
