You’re the second person to say that.

Interesting, because more experienced reviews have pegged it as blue.

https://mountainofink.com/blog/diamine-festive-cheer?rq=Festive cheer

So here's something else interesting - I clicked through the link above (which I may have seen previously).  The top image where "festive cheer" is written certainly looks more Prussian blue than purple to me, but still with hints of purple.  Yet the swab image right below that clearly looks purple to me, even though the accompanying text describes it as a dark royal blue.

Of course, purple isn't a primary color.  I don't know the magic amount of red in an ink that would change it from blue to purple.

If I didn't mention it before, 1864. It's the one I've been most pleased with. Followed by Macassar and Deep Forest.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Diamine Tobacco Sunburst has a very unique color and shading which I love.

Diamine Maureen is a great sheen ink

Diamine Tudor Blue is a beautiful blue.

Blood Orange + Pelikan M600 originally F, now writing more like a B; Blue Velvet in a Waterman 33 F, Pilot 91 SFM; might benefit from a third pen that is able to bring out its medium hue, as shown on the label.

Opening an old bottle of Diamine Registrar's, which hasn't been opened for three years (minimum)

Lid was almost welded to the bottle. Took hot water and (gentle) brute force.

Well worth the effort. Still one of my favourite inks.

I put a few drops of distilled water into it, gave it a good stir and shake and it's writing beautifully.

Enjoy.

@CS388 Right on man. I just had to use the same wrench to open a bottle yesterday. Now I don't feel so bad. Thanks for sharing.

I had to laugh at the picture.

May I ask in what pen/s do you use Registrar's ink, and has it caused any problems?

I'm using Diamine Registrar's Ink in a Daiso Air-Seal fountain pen with a steel nib of unspecified width grade, supported with a feed to has a wick of synthetic fibre, and fitted with a spring-loaded inner cap (à la Platinum Slip & Seal). The cartridge was (half-)filled nearly 12 entire months ago, and I used the pen rarely in the meantime; but when I dug it up just now, it was ready to write without hard-starting upon being uncapped, and there is no pitting or corrosion on the steel nib that I can see. (I also don't see any evidence of much of the ink having evaporated from the cartridge.)

I'm also using Diamine Registrar's Ink in my Pilot Custom Heritage 91 pen that has a 14K gold SFM nib; no problem there either.

However, I'd imagine there would be trouble if I were to use it in a pen that does not have such an effective cap seal. Dried ESS Registrars Ink can leave some pretty stubborn residue that is extremely difficult to get rid of, on every part from nib and feed to the insides of the ink reservoir, if the liquid is allowed to dry out in a pen, even a gold-nibbed one. I expect no different from Diamine Registrar's Ink in that regard.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Hi

A Conway Stewart Scribe, with a generous 3b nib. A Swan No2 self-filler. Both very flexy nibs.

(not my usual, for a long time, now)

Yes, I have to up my pen hygene with Registrar's ink.

But, these are old, free-flowing, robust pens, so they can hack it.

I've also filled a Parker 51 with it, to see how it plays with the collector. (I'm sure I've done this before, but can't remember the outcome).

I'm just a casual user, at the moment, so just want the easy pen life.

If anything takes too much flushing out, or maintenance etc - it'll go back into the box.

If any issues do raise themselves, I'll update.

Thanks.

Ta to both of you.

I have a bottle of ESS Registrar's ink that I had of coming on a year.  I've used it once in a modern Parker pen that I never liked and eventually gifted.  I have a couple of Manuscript made (low end) pens that I might ink up and give it another go.

I'll then have to get a bottle of Diamine Registrar's to compare.

Since you're local to me, I can send you samples of Diamine Registrar's Ink and Hero 232 Blue-Black iron-gall ink, if you like.

This is all quite enlightening; I have a sample that I have wanted to test but I have been a bit worried about what pen to ink with it.  I wonder if I will need a wrench for the sample bottle...

I used to love Sargasso Sea and Bilberry, but now, I REALLY love Winter Miracle.  All three make me happy, but Winter Miracle makes me grin (until I get it smudged all over myself).

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Asa Blue is as attractive as any ink that exists.

Oxblood and the collection of similar colours from Diamine are also excellent.
