Lamy 2000 Leaks Through Filler Knob Seam

I recently bought a Lamy 2000 FP. Great looking as well as writing. I am quite pleased.

 

Except...

 

The first ink I used in the pen was Iroshizuku Tsuki-Yo. Nice and wet, wrote wonderfully. Used up the ink, gave 'er a good flushing out, and put in Iroshizuku Fuyu-Syogun. Had it in there a few days when one day writing I saw all this blue ink on my writing hand. Then I noticed ink creeping out from the seam where the piston filler knob is. It's a blue ink, probably the Tsuki-Yo that I thought I had completely flushed out.

 

I have never dropped the pen; it resides in a quality pen case. No drastic temperature changes. It never leaked with the Tsuki-Yo.

 

Any ideas/thoughts as to why it could be leaking, and how to fix the problem, are appreciated.

Can you tell how you flushed the pen out?

Is it a new pen, or one bought second hand? If its new (or less than two years old) Id send it back to Lamy for repair rather than fix it myself. Partly because I wouldnt want to make it worse, but also that way Lamy see the faults and have a chance to notice if there are wider QC issues.

I flushed the pen with distilled water. Drew it up by turning filler knob and flushed it out. Several times until water ran clear. It’s a brand new pen. I have disassembled it, waiting for it to dry, and will apply silicone grease to the piston. Never had the leak with the first ink I used (Tsuki-Yo).

 

If this doesn’t work I’ll send the pen to Lamy.

Some people mistakenly soak the entire pen under water. Thus water gets behind the piston too which then seeps out like a leak. The method of flushing you did is correct.

 

if you have disassembled and greased the piston now I think it would solve the issue. Just inspect the barrel insides under good light. Do you see any scoring etc?

Greased the piston and reassembled. All seems well.

 

Still a mystery as to how the first ink used got behind the piston. I suppose the piston just wasn’t properly lubed at the factory.
