Curved Nib - Montblanc Calligraphy Collection 2020

Are we supposed to talk about it? From what Ive caught wind of, similar to what we had last year, there are at least the 149 version and a solitaire 146 version.

The Curved Nib, to my understanding, is like an architect grind at a higher angle. So it produces wider horizontal strokes and narrower vertical strokes. Correct me if Im mistaken.

Should be available in September.

Looks like it has become a new line (pun intended). Any thoughts?

My first MB was a 145 with an extra fine nib, and it had a very pronounced architect character that I really liked. I think it would be a nice addition to the MB nibs. I hope the Calligraphy flex nibs continue to be produced. Glad to see MB take the initiative and produce these special edition Calligraphy pens.

No the flex of 2019 won't be produced anymore. It was a yearly limited in time edition.

Confirmed? Is there an estimate of when it will no longer be made? They fill a relatively unique niche

It has always been said by Montblanc the Calligraphy series is a yearly edition and not foreseen to be a long time sold edition. I don't know when the flex will be stopped to be produced but currently it is pretty easy to find one in reseller so not really difficult to find this pen. I suppose most of the person interested by the nib should already have purchased it so I don't know if there will be lot of purchaser in long time.

If that is the case, it sounds like in a couple of years, these Calligraphy flex pens could become quite the rare sought after bird (owners not wanting to let go of theirs), and go up in value, or at least hold it's value very good. Might be good time to snatch these up while they are available if you can.

Oh the pitfalls of the speculator!

I'd rather encourage people to buy something because they liked it rather than hoping to make money on it. If it turns out to be extremely popular I doubt MB would miss a trick.

Oh I love this pen Unical! :)

If MB decides to limit the Calligraphy flex as a special edition and not produce any more, I am just saying it will only go up in value because of its rarity and demand. And the demand is there because everyone is sold out right now with long wait times for those who ordered. You bet it is popular.

I hope you are right and Montblanc does not miss the trick, and make this nib a part of its regular nib line up along with the EF, F, M, B, BB, OB, OBB, OBB and drum roll! Calligraphy Flex, offering the widest selection of std nibs in the market. :P

Dropped in to my local AD in Adelaide, Australia and was briefed on the latest (Sept ETA) Calligraphy nib. It looked like a music nib with Architect characteristics. There is a whole slew of new releases - the WE will not disappoint in its homage to (Yes, the rumours are correct) a French playwright. The POA to a pre-Columbian Central American Emperor will be an acquired taste. An excellent line up for 2020.

He still has 3 Flex 149s in the boutique by the way.

Calling it a curved nib makes me think it's a fude nib - I have to keep reminding myself its an architect grind

I do think keeping a line of calligraphy nibs readily available might be a bit much from a business model perspective. Sailor, which I think of as having the most nib variety, specialty nibs are not part of the standard lineup.

I walked into the AD thinking the same - A fude / Waverly nib - and it was clearly not the case. This is the Calligraphy nib for 2020, and the accompanying (I am assuming it is) 149 sized notebook with that Awagami-like paper - I hope posting this link will be OK.

That looks like the bespoke calligraphy nib, which I don't think is what people are referencing in this topic.

The new calligraphy curved nib has a similar nib design to the flex nib. While on the flex nib they are the 888, on the curved nib they are 3 strokes. ;)

This is a bespoke nib not the new calligraphy curved nib.

You guys are correct indeed, and I apologise to the forum for spouting misinformation. According to my AD, the upcoming Calligraphy nib is not a music nib; but is indeed curved.

Ive put my name down with an EOI for the Calligraphy nib, as Id really want to see if the nib has any use for me other than just sheer novelty.

where are all of you getting this information from? please post links

Dear nickycat, even though some of our members may have direct access to some documentation on a personal ground - or even to information posted through the Internet –, according to the rules of the Montblanc Forum they are not allowed to post such an information here for pens that have not been officially released yet.

You will wait in vain on this forum, until the official release, to see anything, but you can accolade to a joyful topic of suggestions, half-informations, and imaginative speculations...

NOT sheer novelty. Any of these specialty nibs are designed for those to are either trained or have learned how to use the nib. If you think it's a sheer novelty for your personal use, perhaps consider letting others who know how to use the tool have a chance at making a purchase.

I myself can't wait because I have heard Axel talk about this nib perhaps 3-4 years ago. At that point in time, it was only available through the bespoke program. He said this nib was primarily targeted towards the Asian market. I did not get a chance to see or try it because he did not have it on his person.
