I tested different lighting. It really depends on the lighting which one appears darker. :)

It's in the turquoise/cyan/teal category, but more green than Pacific. The ink is significantly more green. See this photograph and comparison video by GouletPens:

C'mon Goulet, that middle one should be first! Roy G. Biv is spinning in his grave.

They might have done it for the contrast. Artist's choice. ;)

Photos of objects that have similar coloration should be staged with common objects so the differences can be assessed objectively. These three pens should have several other AlStars on the same stage or Some commonly known objects like a red moleskine notebook or a neutral gray card.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

Here's another pic using outdoor light.attachicon.gif 497B4B07-6FD7-450A-BAC9-70CA050CF8DE.jpeg

Really nice picture!

Every Safari/Vista/Al Star owner knows the color of those boxes and they provide a great contrast to show the true colors of the fountain pens.

Okay, I passed on the Pacific Blue al-Star when it came out (yeah, ended up spending more money on a pink TWSBI-580 AL instead...). And so I can *definitely* pass on the Turmaline.

But thanks to everyone for posting photos.

I think for me the Pacific Al-Star is still my favorite color. Recently I replaced the stock nib with a black stainless fine point which has positively transformed how the pen performs. I keep this pen in my man bag/Manhattan Portage messenger bag so that it is the only FP with me at all times.

Pacific is a Blue Teal and Tourmaline is a Green Teal both with cool, undertone.

The Blue Green is a warm green with yellow undertone, Charged Green has even more yellow, it is a yellow green.

I think next year's Al Star could be in the blue family, there is a wide range of colors between the standard Al Star Blue and Pacific.

I know I'm a little late here, but how does the Tourmaline compare in saturation to the Vibrant Pink? I'd especially love it someone could post a photo of these pens next to each other using outdoor light.... :)

Sorry -- I only have the Vibrant Pink.

Kinda looking forward to better pix of this year's al-Star SE/LE color, which I think Lamy called "Azure" but appears to be a pale ice-blue.

Are you thinking of buying the tourmaline? Just buy it. Hardly anyone regrets another lovely AlStar.

Haha, probably true. But it's a slippery slope.... :P

I think this is the cheapest slippery slope, for a contemporary brand, on The Fountain Pen Network, take a look at some other brands and you will see.

There are so many way to find a slippery slope on FPN, Lamy's is one of the most forgiving. :)
