Thank you! I've been toying with buying it since reading about it, the finally decided this morning that if I looked and they still had any, I'd just go for it.

 

This will certainly be a special 149 for me! I honestly have not been writing too much for the past few weeks, but my 1980s EF 149(currently what I'd consider my second favorite 149 of the 5 I have) is the pen I've been using when I do.

 

Our semester starts back for me tomorrow with meetings all day for the rest of the week. Obviously I won't have the Italic Edge in-hand probably until next week at the earliest(I'd guess) but will have plenty of opportunity in the coming months to use it.

Hi @agentdaffy007my 149C rail-roaded and hard-started out of the box. It needed two trips back to the regional MB service centre. Not once, but twice. The first time, the SC said that it "wrote fine on their Montblanc paper" and sent it back to my local AD. But it still rail-roaded and hard started. On the second trip back to the SC, they just replaced the entire nib. And now, it's an enjoyable writer ! 

 

I think specialty nibs like the Calligraphy Flex can be prone to over-polishing, but I hope that MB can make it right for you.

 

Edit: @agentdaffy007on reading your post again - did your 149C actually come with "that nib" - as in the curved Chinese Calligraphy nib by mistake ?

@agentdaffy007 and @MalcLee, I noticed that one of the calligraphy pens @Frank C purchased wasn't a great writer write out of the box.  I hope he can chime in.

@MalcLee, yes it did come with the nib that is supposed to come out next year.

 

I did not enjoy writing with it because it railroad and skipped.

 

They replaced the nib to the normal 149C nib which is a wonderful nib. I like it much better. It seems like it was a mistake I guess.

 

In a hindsight, I should of sent it to a nibmeister to fix it and sold it afterwards to someone that wants that fude nib. Maybe someone would of enjoyed it.
