You are a very wise and smart person. I sure wish I had thought of that.

It could be worse.  I bought a bottle of Parker Penman Sapphire when it first came out in the 1993, I think it was $13 at the time (versus $4 for Quink or $11 for Montblanc ink).  When I finally finished the bottle, the ink was discontinued, and prices were up to about $55 in the used market.  I bought some extra supply of it at $70 to $80 a bottle because I like it so much, and prices have seem to have stabilized at $100 to $120 per bottle with occasional bargain partial bottles available.

Monteverde Horizon Blue is a very close substitute, so you can get nearly the same experience with only a tiny bit lighter a blue and a touch less red sheen at  $16 per bottle.

Diji with Heritage Egyptomania Resin EF

Ah, what a lovely couple of pens. I love the subtlety of the Egyptomania.

Mine is on order, and has been for some time, with a larger European retailer. Evidently there are production/logistical delays. I do hope it arrives soon.

Tom & indeed anyone else, do you find the heritage ef to be any different in terms of line width from the meisterstuck ef? I am aware the nibs have more spring/elasticity.

~ @flaneur:

The Heritage Egyptomania EF on my writing desk lays down a narrow, crisp line.

Never scratchy, never skipping, it's as one might hope.

There's perceptible shading in the lines when most inks are used.

The nib elasticity is almost never put to the test as I tend to write and sketch with a fairly light hand.

It's a joy to use as the pen barrel is taut, well-balanced, and ideal for my fingertips.

May yours arrive in the first weeks of Autumn so that you may enjoy it.

@Tom Kellie Thank you for putting this in so many words. Particularly, the observations about barrel balance address some of my questions!

I will certainly report back once I receive the pen. Until then, I must decide whether to ink it with (Sailor, Nagasawa Kobe) Old Foreigner Ward Sepia or (J. Herbin) Lie de Thé...

That may very well be the most beautiful flock of Pelikans I have ever seen in a Montblanc thread…

That's very kind of you.

Thank you so much.

After the image was posted, a former student arranged for me to order a similar brush cup.

The cup is also very nice. What, if any, is the significance of the dragon?

~ @N1003U:

Dragons suggest heavenly forces, particularly the onset of precipitation.

The Azure Dragon 青龙 was the portal guardian of Taoist temples.

It also featured on the Qing Dynasty national banner.

Celestial protection, which was certainly afforded to the Montblanc fountain pens throughout the repatriation process in January, 2021.

The original developer of the Parker Penman inks has come out with the Scribe line of inks that are intended as replacements for the original Penman inks, though apparently the chemical composition is different. I can attest that Scribe Indigo is indeed very close to Penman Sapphire. There has been some discussion about it in the FPN ink forum.
