Pelikan 100 Nib Section Replacement

Recommended Posts

Greetings all,

I love my Pelikan 100, even though it is 90 years old. So naturally it decided to crack through the nib section and barrel. I have a replacement barrel that takes a nib section that screws in, but I have had no luck locating a replacement screw in nib section. If anyone has any possible leads please let me know.

Thank you,

Zap

I'm not sure what you're asking. Do you want the nib unit? I am not familiar with vintage 100's but assumed they used the same nib threads as modern Pelikans, am I wrong?

“Calamophile—I learned the term from a blogspot—means “pen lover,” and derives from calamus, Latin for “reed writer.” Excerpt From Ink by Ted Bishop

Also to me it is not clear what you are asking. If the section is broken you still have an intact nib/feed unit for your replacement barrel. Or is the nib/feed unit broken? A picture of the broken parts might be helpful.

The nib and nib collar are fine. The nib section is the part the nib screws into, which is different from the barrel (unless the barrel/section is one piece). I obtained a barrel from Rick, but the replacement barrel takes a screw in nib section, which is what I need next. Its the part of the pen your fingers touch when writing.

Is your replacement barrel an original Pelikan 1930-40s barrel or one of these modern copies in transparant acrylic? Rick is likely the best source also for an original Pelikan 100 section.

Any attempt to unscrew the section from a Pelikan 100 or 100N barrel will almost always result in a broken barrel. So you may have to find a donor barrel with intact section and then break the section away from the barrel.

Only in very rare cases the section screws out without problem, like this one:

Thanks Joss. That is exactly what I am looking for. Rick generously agreed to make an exception and sell me a barrel, but he does not sell parts anymore. Any further begging on my part would be unwanted I expect. I think I will have to go to some pen shows to find a donor barrel.

Hello,

I have a Pelikan100n which used to have broken both grip-section and barrel.

The FPN member Kawuska made a replacement grip-section and barrel for it few years ago.

This is how my 100n looks now, with the replacement grip and barrel:

I know he can also make the grips for Pelikan100.

Hope this can help.

A picture of the crack would be helpful. I think that both barrel and section should be made of celluloid. It might be possible to solvent solder the crack, which would be my first choice. Top restorers can do that.

This appears to be a pre-1933 model, according to the grip-section shape. Therefore only the barrel is made of celluloid while the grip-section is made of ebonite.

Only cracks in celluloid may be solvent-soldered, AFAIK.

I am glad it worked for you. Kawuska is a true master, IMO. His artisan spare parts make some of the best experience from the golden age of handwriting still possible today. It would be great if you could post few pics of your restored Pelikan 100 back and going strong.

Here is a post about my 1934 P100 springing back to life thanks to his barrel:
