Are today's Omas nibs made by Omas ?

I don't see the big deal with Omas using Bock nibs. IMHO, Omas's 18k nibs made in-house don't feel any better than the Omas 18k nibs made by Bock.

One plus that Omas's nibs have ove rmany others made by Bock is that the grind is a bit different from the more vanilla Bock nibs used by Bexley, Visconti, Conklin and others. I've can't tell the difference in writing between an in-house 18k Medium nib and an 18k Bock-made nib, but both have the same style grind. Which says to me that they finish the nibs in house, or Bock does a good job following their guidelines.

I don't own any new style (post 2005) Omas pens, so I don't know if that's changed. Newest Omas I've had was from 2003.

I'd be more concerned if Omas switched away from the ebonite feed and switched to the standard screw in Bock nib units with the plastic feed.

That all said, I do think that the in-house Omas 14k nibs from before they switched to 18k nibs are superior to both the 18k Bock-made and 18k Omas-made nibs. The 1960s-1980s 14k Omas nibs are really quite nice- the early 1980s Omas nibs are probably the best anyone made for that decade.

Ancora makes its own nibs.

Caran D'Ache doesn't make nibs.

(I love my Aurora's Goldoni Fine 18k nib. I love its shape and the music i can hear when i'm writing with it.)

The interesting thing, in my opinion, is that many italian brands use bock nib such as Stipula, Marlen and Visconti and they are quite similar on paper and have the same plastic feeds, while Omas, that use bock's ones too, gave to nibs its personal touch both for the look and the ebonite feeds.

Sailor, Nakaya (Platinum), Pilot/Namiki, Dupont, Waterman, Parker, Sheaffer, Cross, Montblanc and Lamy are other brands (i know) with Aurora and Ancora that make their own nib.

Bye.

According to my reliable source, it is correct that Caran d'Arch doesn't make nibs. Caran d'Arch uses nibs manufactured by Bock.

Graf von Faber-Castell also makes its own nibs.

Not to resurrect a dead thread, but just to correct the record, GvFC uses Bock.

The more I use my new Omas Milord, the more I enjoy it. A question to satisfy my curiosity, because I hear contradictory things about this : are the current Omas nibs always made by Omas, or are they made now by another factory, e.g. Bock ? From my readings here and there, I think they are no longer home made, but I am not sure. That's not really important, just wondering.

Does it matter? Omas specify how they want their nibs to be to the manufacturer, who then makes them that way. It's just one factory doing a job that used to be done elsewhere, but the machines are essentially the same. Bock make all sorts of nibs for many different pen companies; I've found Bock nibs that differ quite markedly from one brand to the other.
