Vac-Fill Desk Pens

Recommended Posts

This linked photo was recently posted by Addertooth (thank you!) in the Repair forum, which raises a couple questions as I consider buying a Vac-Fill desk pen:

  • Did all Vac-Fill desk pens come with the inner reservoir/outer barrel design in the photo below?
  • Color and base aside, were all Vac-Fill desk pens the same size/model/price number? If not, what did Sheaffer offer in Vac-Fill desk pens?

TIA

No to question 1. I have a 2nd generation Triumph deskie - striped celluloid grip & barrel.

[edit] - I rarely post here so had to figure out how to add my photos.

The early ones did not have a removable inner cylinder, that is a characteristic of later models.

There were some differences, no surprise there, but I do not know what the model numbers are. There were white dot lifetime versions sold, as well as the non-lifetime warranty models.

The one in the picture has no model number stamped on it, just the usual manufacturer label. It screws into the cup rather than simply resting in it.. a feature which I like.

Below, a picture of the same pen post repair.

They used both vac-fil systems. They did not introduce a desk vac-fil until the war so there are none before 1942 therefore they have a shorter range from 1942 until 1948 when the touchdowns came in.

Thanks all of you for showing what is inside my vac fill desk pen.

Thank you, Roger. During that six-year production, did Sheaffer offer Vac-Fill Triumph-style-nib desk pens in more than one barrel length/girth, like they did for their other pens?

Desk pens are real basic on sizes. The first ones were medium or thin at .003" difference. There are lots of different ones but 1930 was the big era for choice. By the 40's the choices are pretty narrow. I think they are the same lengths and they are either black or brown stripped. Keep in mind that this era I know the least about.
