Green Earth - My Ink Of The Year

Recommended Posts

For the past few years, I've selected a single colour to use all year in my notebook at work (an A5 Leuchtturm 1917). Last year, it was Pelikan Edelstein Smoky Quartz. In 2018, it was my blue-green mixture ("Deep Sea Blue-Green" aka "Serendipity Marine").

For 2020, I wanted a "green-black". I have Private Reserve Ebony Green, which is extremely dark and saturated, and takes forever to dry. I was inspired by Pelikan Edelstein Olivine (their 2018 Ink of the Year), and this post (sadly, the pictures vanished in the last few weeks).

Here's what I came up with:

It's green enough to look, well, green, but it's not intense like Lamy Green, or super dark like Ebony Green. It's also not a pure green, leaning to more of a natural green. I think I'll be happy to use it for the next year!

PS. From looking at ink reviews on this site, my ink appears to be somewhat like Sailor Epinard or Tokiwa-Matsu

The mix you used is a very similar color, only darker which I obtained by sheer accident when I was attempting to make Waterman Blue/Black ink much darker because it looked like a light blue when completely dry. I used Noodler's Black for the mix. No matter how much black I put in, there was no appreciable color change until 50/50 when the Waterman ink turned to a green. So I kept adding more black to make it a darker green which worked to my satisfaction.

I was looking for a dark Green/ Black ink - for want of a better term - for a change of color when writing my correspondence. Now I have it and the ink behaves exceptionally well and has been doing so this past month. Unfortunately, I'm unable to scan in the result. I guess I need to borrow your word, Serendipity, then add Green/Black! I bought Parker Blue/Black which is close to the color I was previously looking for.

They came as a boon, and a blessing to men,
The Pickwick, the Owl and the Waverley pen

Sincerely yours,

Pickwick

Very cool color!!!

Any idea where I can find that download for the ink test sheet you used for this?

I had it years ago when I started testing my inks but got lost.

That's a sheet of my own design. Here's the blank sheet, at full 300dpi resolution:

You should be able to just right click on the image and save it. Note that it probably looks funny above because the browser is scaling it to fit the width of the forum.

If that fails, here's a direct link to the image on my web server:
