Hi all,

I just went through all of my 51's; both the Customs and the standard models with the Lustraloy caps.

The only ones that have the gold-center clutch rings are the Custom Vacumatics.  All of my Aerometrics have the plain rings; even the Customs - and a couple of mine were NOS, so theres no chance of parts being intermixed from repairs.

So, I'm thinking it was limited to Vacumatics and maybe EARLY Aerometrics.

- Sean  :)

That may be right--or no aerometrics at all; it seems I misremembered the Flighter as having the plating.

Looking at the "new" P51 Deluxe  I have realised that I like its gold-plated decorative "clutch" ring... and then tried to remember if any of the original P51s with RG caps have (had) a gold-plated clutch rings at all?

Personally I have never seen gold-plated clutch rings on original P51s...

Did/do they exist?

I never paid attention to that but I just checked my 51 with rolled gold cap. One could think that the clutch ring would be gold as well to fit the trim, but no, it's silver.

Then again I think I've seen photos of the early 51s with "Empire State" caps with gold clutch rings, but only inside, like ele and Ferocity pointed out above (picture found via Google):

The 2002 SE 51 had a full golden clutch ring.

Right; I've never seen a full on gold one before.

Mine is a third quarter 1946 Parker 51 made in U.S.A.
Sub-model... I don't know = )

Hi Sean,

Oh man I can't wait to write with mine! After I finish filming the "close up," video (like the parker 105 one) I am going to definitely hurry up and dip it in ink!!! Where the nib makes contact with the paper, mine has a nice flat spot too. I am looking at it in real life right now and it is not round; IT IS SUPER FLAT. You can see it in one of my photos too that the shiny part on the bottom is flat. I genuinely don't know if this makes it an actual "stub," since the very distal part of the tip is rounded off though brother. Yours clearly writes like a stub. Since the nib is flat right there... does that mean this is technically a stub nib too?
I genuinely do not know.

~ This guy = )

I know brother. I just don't want some sweet kind soul apologizing to me over the phone you know? I can pretty much put money on how it's going to go down: some hard-working person who works as a representative for parker or pen-chalet is going to go and pick up the phone on the other end and after I explain what's up he/she is going to apologize for something they didn't do... like as if they personally did something to my converter or something. It's awful; and at the end of the day I don't think anyone in power to do something about this really truly cares. I now that the people who buy parker products DO care, and so I need to be honest and not care about scaring anyone off... because if I do then I'm being deceiptful to them. and I might sugar coat it here and there BUT i AM VERY clear and I do not mislead and I am honest. This is what happened, but don't hate Parker or pen-chalet for it, because I don't think they did this on purpose.
Either way if anyone in power cared, they would make an account here at the fountain pen network and they would reach out to us with some suggestions as to how they're planning on making sure this doesn't happen to any other little Joe somewhere else. Luckily I filmed it.
I don't think the rules allow me to post a link to my videos... I will post it here if it's okay
Tomorrow I'll post the "part 1 video," where you can actually see the converter as it came, but today I am posting the second part of the unboxing video WHICH Does include a few scenes featuring the actual converter it came with = )

You can find it on youtube.
My account name is "true real," and the video title is " Unboxing New 2020 Parker 51 Deluxe Plum Edition Medium 14k Gold Nib 2021 Next Generation Reissue Pen ."

Again: I will post a link directly to both of my videos that exclusively feature the parker 51 deluxe fountain pen, if it's within the rules = )

Thank you, Ferocty.

I see, it seems that partially gold-plated ring was on some early P51s...

Thank you, Sean.

It seems your guess is right ...

All my P51s are Customs with RG caps but non one has got a partially GP ring. But all of them are from mid/late 50s.

Besides, yesterday I found on Internet two pics of Vacumatics with those gold-plated rings but no Aeros.

So, now I have a new task for myself to find P51 with such a ring for my collection ;)

Yes, I've also seen Empire State ones with that ring on eBay some time ago.

Beautiful pen...

Is it with a Fine nib?

Last year I stupidly missed a chance to buy the one in NOS condition, and since then I have not seen any offers of it in Honey White...

But I like and enjoy my P100 in Cobalt Black :)

Yes Fine nib

Just an observation:

After reading rather good opinions of fellow FPN members, who have already bought and tried New P51 Deluxe, on writing performance of the “re-imagined” P51, and taking into account that the “new” P51 very likely has a Jotter/Vector-based writing parts, I have inked one of my Rialtos (“fancy-dressed” Vector with a Fine gold-plated nib) and used it for a few days alongside my original P51 (M nib)…

Strangely enough, but I have found that Rialto being a slightly better writer than my old P51… Is it something wrong with me or my old P51?..

It seems I have no other option but to purchase a “new” P51 Deluxe and try it myself… ;)

The Deluxe P51 does seem to come with a properly tuned nib with good quality control.  Mine writes great.  Can't take that away from it!

Hi all,

I would LOVE to see writing samples from those who have the NG51 Deluxe; particularly the ones who opted for a Medium nib.

I would very much like to see if theirs has the same stub-like style that mine does.  So far, I haven't seen that replicated by anyone else.

I will say, ALL of my NG51's have been EXCELLENT writers straight out of the box - even the Core models - with no ignition problems, etc.  The only issue I had is my Teal one needed a good flush to get it on track; the others needed nothing.

Way too late to ask and probably a stupid question, but what does "NG" stand for? Still haven't figure it out.

Next generation, I think.

Hi Ele,

Catbert guessed correctly.  It's a simple way, I thought; to differentiate between the new 51 and the original,... which I'll occasionally refer to as "O51," but usually just "51" or "P51." :)

I guess if one wanted to simplify it even more, you could say, "N51" for the new one and "O51," "P51," or just "51" for the the original.  Or, 51A and 51B.

Or...

Welcome to the Dark Side. I hope the cookies are to your liking!

in all seriousness, there is nothing that could ever replace the old Parker '51' in terms of build and quality, and in what it was able to accomplish. For over twenty twenty years, it ruled the roost of the world's greatest pens. I believe huge numbers of great novels and incisive business reports were created by people who used their particular '51' to its utmost, enjoying perfect output with no need to worry about ink blots or airplane depressurizations or what would happen if they dropped their precious instrument.

This new model writes well. It looks spectacular. And we can hope it lasts for a while without breakage.

May we all create wonderful work of the mind and of the emotions!

(But still, let's pray for a Flighter model really soon)

No prob; you're welcome my friend. I'm not usually able to be of much help, but I'm really glad that THAT time I was a little bit = ) Thanks to you, I know now that some parker 51 fountain pens did come with full gold colored clutch rings! If you do end up getting the new 51, I hope that it feels like a better writer than your realto = )

MisterSheaffer! Great job on that Parker 51 you fixed up! That is awesome!

Sean I'm going to attach a writing sample

= )

It was written with my Plum 51 Deluxe. With the Medium 14k Nib of course! also I didn't really flush it out yet or cleaned any of the insides yet. all I did was take the ink cartridge out of my Parker sonnet and then just made sure the Plum's nib made contact with the ink hahaha It worked great!

My last video in which I do a close-up view of the Parker 51 Deluxe is up on youtube as of today! I've also uploaded the unboxing videos (both part 1 and part 2) in which it shows how the converter was inside the pen in the exact way in which it arrived straight from the mail in its brand new box! The close up video can be found under my youtube channel "True Real," under the title: " 2021 Parker 51 Deluxe Plum Fountain Pen Medium 14k Gold Nib Edition Next Generation Reissue 2020 ," and the unboxing video where we can see the strange converter being discovered inside the fountain pen is titled, " UNBOXING 2020 Parker 51 Deluxe Plum Fountain Pen New Edition Medium Gold Nib 2021 Next Generation NG ."

I WOULD POST THE LINKS DIRECTLY ONTO THIS COMMENT BUT I'M WORRIED THAT IT ACTUALLY MIGHT BE AGAINST THE RULES!

Thank you everyone~! I hope this helps someone somewhere = )

good to hear that you are enjoying the pen - just out of curiosity - with the D in Dip seen in the photos - are you having some trouble with the pen starting?

I did, and I don't know why = )
the figure 8s right above the word "heavy," also had a hard start, plus a skip half way through it.
