The last version of the original 51 has an all metal one piece jewel holding the clip on.

There are Grey pearl injection molded jewels before the metal jewel and of course the pearlescent celluloid jewels from the beginning.

First year jewels are found in aluminum, silver,  and celluloid.

San Francisco International Pen Show - The next “Funnest Pen Show” is on schedule for August 23-24-25, 2024.  Watch the show website for registration details.

I think they should post this photo instead

BTW, I no longer find the "grove" around the jewel ugly... It may not look perfect but not too bad...

Overall, I started liking this new P51 cap in gold finish though a clip is a "weak link", looks too cheap...

It's quite easy for these jewels to look quite tacky, in a way that the Montblanc logo typically doesn't, but just my opinion. I'm not a fan of the gap around the metal jewel.

And we have already seen "metal jewel" on P100's cap ...

I'm not a fan of that gap either...

I like how the "gap" makes the "jewel" looking like it is floating in the end of the cap.

Personally, I think it looks quite smart.....

Hi all,

I have no problem with the metal jewel; I have no real issue with the original, either. But, say what you will, the metal jewel will probably have more longevity; I have original jewels that have discolored (and not in a good way) with age.

There is a significant difference between complementary and complimentary.

Would be much funnier as "complimentary"

I am writing with a 601 Flighter right now, inked up with new Private Reserve Black Magic Blue.

Is it better than the new P51? I only have the 51 in Medium, so the nib is wetter and smoother than the Jinhao. Maybe a fine P51 would be a better comparison. The stainless steel 601 is heavier, though.

I prefer the 601's slip cap for quick access, though I expect the screw-cap 51 would better resist dryout when left sitting in the drawer.

I had read where you got on the "fligther" WS 601's. Mine as really held up its appearance well as a daily carry. I've stopped judging nibs since for me, the type of paper determines the experience. That said, the 601 is not as smooth generally as are either of my present 51's.

Thanks for the penabling, I placed a pre-order for a plum deluxe for a really good deal. :)

Enuhsky I'm going to laugh so hard if you get your pandemic plum 51 before I do~! I ordered mine early February trying to get a deal, and it seems like I got an ok price at 220, but some folks on here are getting their deluxe 51s for 180 dollars❤️

i wish I could get that kind of deal

i think I can still price match, but it just doesn't feel good to me to go back on a deal I guess... Still sucks I could have gotten it for less than 200 bucks if I was a little more clever, wise and knowledgeable =\

It would make too much sense if they did show the photo like THAT~! hahaha I think they're trying to milk it for more than it's worth by showing off things on it THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ON THERE LIKE THAT! I'm sure many people would agree that THAT "Jewel," compliments the design adequately; it looks like it belongs there. Then again... If the pen is well designed, in my opinion every single part of the pen IS supposed to look like it belongs there. Thus, every component that makes up the whole pen is complementary to the pen as a whole🤷🏻‍♂️ So what's the point of advertising the jewel alone as a single item that's complementary!? It's like saying "look, the feed looks like it's designed to go together with this pen." It's such nonsense it's borderline hilarious. In conclusion, to have a photo like the one you suggested as the main pic, would make TOO much sense hahahaha

Riiiiiiiiiight I thought that too! It just bothers me how big a pain in the butt it's going to be to clean it after a few years of hanging out in people's pocket. It's going to be really easy to get all sorts of junk in there: pocket lint, micro granules of dirt, OLD SKIN just anything can get in there... Still... it looks kinda cool how it's floating alright 👍

I forgot to even mention that part! that's the best part about it: no discoloration with time or with cleaning supplies❤️ I like stainless steel pens because you can clean them with pretty much anything. I'm sure this one will be a little more delicate than stainless steel, but I'm not going to be afraid of using rubbing alcohol or water with soap! A vintage Parker 51 on the other hand, cleaning it with anything other than warm water is a crime against humanity (apparently 🤷🏻‍♂️). I don't want to commit crimes so with my other Parker 51s: warm water+patience it is 😅

p.s. people clean their vintage Parker 51s with all sorts of stuff (including sandpaper). I'm not judgin'you or your cleaning methods...i have just come to the conclusion that anything that isn't water could potentially mess with the parts that aren't metal; that's all... I used to use ammonia like it was no big deal AND FOR THE MOST PART IT WASN'T... I'm not risking it anymore hahahahha

thank you for your time = )

Where are people finding the new P51 below $200?
