Hi Sean,

Could you, please, tell us what country of manufacturing appears on the new P51?

Is it France?

Hi Red Beard,

The reverse of the cap band reads: "FRANCE Q. III"

So, they are made in France and are date-coded.

I wouldn't be surprised ;) taking into account its price for gold-nib/gold-cap version being almost 40% higher than in the US...

Yeah, Ferocity, that was an ugly scene.

What makes it even more painful is their stamped, "SAMPLE"; which makes them all the more rare and collectable. :(

I also noticed my teal is a lot darker than her version.

Guys and gals...as a collector of old and abused pens, hold a hand ful of pens does nothing to damage the pen. I mean, if you want a pristine pen, don't use and let it burn up in the house fire.

I say this because if an experience to give a nice Suby to my eldest grand daughter. I babied that thing for nearly 6 years only to have a teen texting rear end the thing and have it totaled. While praise God no one was hurt, all of my efforts came to nought.

Hi Adam,

I didn't want to go through the hassle of taking a pic and uploading it, but I have those 45 Aerometric converters, too. They fit. 👍

(So do the cheap slide converters and the "Deluxe" piston converters that come with the Duofold).

- Sean  :)

Thanks so much. That will be great! -- Adam

Nnnnooooooo!!!! I DIDN'T REALIZE THEY WERE EXTRA SPECIAL 💔

Sean you eagle eyed chap

good on ya

good on ya 👍

Esty Collector I used to be just like that... I didn't care very much if all my pens got jumbled together. it wasn't until September of 2019 that I realized... HEY... pens are ACTUALLY nice ❤️

I got a Parker jotter

just a normal one in all stainless steel that you can find at Staples for 9 bucks "made in France."

that thing was so nice to me and I used it all the time (now I baby it, just like all my other pens 100%). Since it was the only pen I used, I noticed that it never got scratched. Just buy sheer luck I put it in places that weren't mean to it. Well

then I got a zebra F701... IN ONE MORNING

MY PENS GOT SCRAAAACHED

You're probably saying to yourself: you put knurled steel next to soft steel? what did you think was going to happen your idiot?

well

hahahaha

I never cared 🤷🏻‍♂️

I never KNEW to care

I see my pens now and I feel so sad about how I took care of them. micro scratches left and right OR DEEP Scratches from other pens of harder materials rubbing up against each other inside my book bags. I don't do that now.

I am getting a Parker 51 in Plum and I'm going to carry it pretty much on a weekly basis for years to come, and you better believe I'm going to do my best to avoid getting even the smallest of micro scratches on it. That's just how I am now with ALL my pens.

I don't let them touch 🤷🏻‍♂️

Even my " Schneider Slider Rave XB ," is handled like this 🤷🏻‍♂️

It's because I realize now that the scars on my Jotter will be there for years to come (if it does indeed last that long). when I get these pens that are nearly a hundred years old or more in some cases I'm amazed at how well they were taken care of, and also heartbroken when they were abused.

So you do you ❤️❤️👍❤️❤️

your way is far less stressful, and much more enjoyable

I just want to keep as many scratches away from my pens as possible = )

Hi Esty,

I'll have you to know that is NOT a $5 Chinese pen! It is an $12 French pen!

I baby my pens, too, Ferocity.

I like sets, but I always try to keep them an inch apart in a breast pocket; i.e., I never put them in a pant pocket or a backpack or the like.

And when their not in use, I keep them in little flocked drawers with flocked pen trays in them. Those scratches and rub marks peeve me, too. ;)

BTW, quite on topic, that's what bothers me about the clutch caps on the original 51 - the rub marks they make on the section.

All of this talk of the "new" Parker 51 has made me get out my old one (1956) and fill it. I have to admit the nib is great and it's very smooth and nice to write with. I do have a small gripe about the amount of ink it holds, which is not too bad but not like a modern piston fill Pelikan. Maybe there are secrets about getting the most ink into it?

I would not consider the new Parker 51 although I think the non gold nib version is reasonably priced but the extra for a converter is not good, in my opinion. So I'm probably not in the market for one, but I will keep an open mind and you never know ... If the nib was as good as my 1956 pen then I might ...

Very tempting but I wish they offered more interesting nibs and a slip cap. I’ve had great experiences with Parker (Newell Rubbermaid) customer service in the recent past.

HI NM4,

I, too, wish more nib options were available; I love broads and fine/medium stubs.

I was all for the threaded cap, but I have to admit - I have found myself pulling on the new 51s cap and turning my old 51s caps - it's all so confusing.
