Parker 51 Comeback 2020?

I can imagine that somewhere there is a forum for car aficionados where the current debate is whether a 2021 Ford Mustang is really a true Mustang. 😉

Sorry, it's just that a comparison seemed to be being made between moderately expensive Parkers and budget Lamys (although that has now been clarified).

I think I'm bored with this now......  ;)

I perfectly understand :)

Hopefully, pre-ordered "new" P51s will be delivered to the ones who ordered them within February/March, then we will have a wave of posts with happiness/anger/joy/frustration/etc (one should underline what is relevant to him), and then... no one will be much care about P51 2021 by the end of this year ;)

Walk into any local Rymans or Smiths in the UK and you'll see Safaris hanging on the hooks, bubbled and cardboard backed.....

And when I was in Germany they had Safaris sitting in cups and stuck in foam boards at the store registers.
That's not what you'll find for just about anything but disposable ballpoints here in the US.

So, as I understand, the retailers are now shipping these new 51s, right?

Meanwhile, Parker still doesn't mention it on their website

https://www.parkerpen.com/collection

I don't think so.. I think Parker/Newell will wait until first pre-orders are completed...Though I may be wrong...

I love that this thread has, over 31 pages, philosophically delved into the nature of the "Parker 51".

I agree :)

Then we should have about twice more pages after receiving our pre-ordered "new" P51s ;)

and then the interest will naturally fade... and we keep hunting for much-loved vintage genuine P51s :)

It do exist, and not one :)

By the way, I already mentioned some time ago a parallel with a car sector remembering introductions of "new" VW Kaupfer, Fiat 500 and Mini in recent years...

It does not matter for me as I use Parkers only :)

You’re missing out on a practical, daily driver that takes a licking and keeps on ticking, to use and old Timex slogan.

May be.. :) I've missed a number of nice things in my life...

But I am happy with all my Parkers so far ;)

yeah ❤️ it's beautiful

32 pages and counting hahaha

I just hope the new 51 is on par with the 1940s in terms of how nice it feels in the hand 🤷🏻‍♂️

THAT, and I just also hope the new 51 also has the capability to last for more than 100 years (I'm pretty sure both my Parker 51s from the 40s are going to survive more than 100 years & still be able to write).

Time will tell ❤️ life goes on, and this is JUST a pen. Consider all the bad things going on... this is INSIGNIFICANT

Wow that was dark hahah so let's avoid the bad and geek out on some pens = )

Honesty even if it does or it doesn't last 100 years for one reason or another, I am going to use mine 💖

I just want a pen that is in as original condition as possible through time+space, and with this pen I am obtaining that.

I just wish I didn't have to get a converter because if it came with one it would be the original thing that came with this pen.

if I add a converter, it's no longer "the original thing."

It's pretty absurd to some people, but that's how I am sometimes and it makes me happy so I'm not going to change ❤️

So that's why I'm a little upset it didn't come with a converter.

(I haven't gotten mine yet, but it's clearly written on the pen chalet website that it is not going to be coming with an included converter. maybe not in those exact words, but it's pretty clear).

I just want that pen to be ITSELF through time and space.

no extra fluff

just

the

original

pen

I don't think it's particularly classy to refill that included plastic ink cartridge with a syringe but Parker left me no choice.

I have tons of converters (maybe 6), but THEY go TO their RESPECTIVE pen. I don't swap them out, because THAT'S the converter THAT pen came with (ya know).

I'm going to keep my BRAND NEW Parker 51 EXACTLY in the way in which it came, and if I ever add a converter it'll be because I caved, and wanted a better life for my new pen hahahhahaha

(of course I am never going to lose that little plastic ink cartridge nor the box+paperwork👍)

So intimately it's pretty pointless to argue about what "Company A," does versus "Company X."

Who cares even!?

Besides me.

Maybe one company always includes converters, maybe the other always excludes them and maybe one likes to pick and choose which pen models come with the converter and which don't.

At the end of the day I am an outsider looking in to the Parker Pen Company saying, "that's not fair."

that's all

I'm glad they included SOMETHING.

Still, I am disappointed.

I am; big deal; it's true; no need to fight about it hahaha

If the company cared, they'd include ink.

they did that

I can't complain

yet

I do

why?

Maybe it's because I personally associate NICE glass/fine plastic converters with high quality luxury goods. My Parker Classic came with a nnnnniiiiiiiiiiice metal aerometric converter... I had never seen anything like it in my life and it is SUPER nice 💖💖👍💖💖

I associate disposable ink cartridges with the Vector Fountain pen (I'm a fan; not a big fan; butI like mine AND THAT PEN is NOT a high quality luxurious object next to most Parker fountain pens).

So if the new Parker 51 in chrome came with the plastic ink cartridge that it comes with now, but the Parker 51 Deluxe came with a nice converter: I would be okay with that. yes if the Parker 51 Deluxe came with a crappy converter I would also be peeved off

Why?

I don't know: a vast disparity in quality?

That Parker Classic with the nice coverter are like two peas in a pod (they match in quality).

the Parker Vector that I got didn't even come with the little plastic ink cartridge🤷🏻‍♂️

guess what? Yup: two peas in a pod.

A ten dollar Parker Vector without so much as a disposable plastic ink cartridge? yeah that's fair (to me).

That 2020 Parker 51 Deluxe with that plastic ink cartridge are not matching.

it's like a Ferrari being driven by a live giant sea crab... IT DOESN'T MATCH

it doesn't matter THAT MUCH

my main point is that I want my pen to last more than a hundred years, and I think it'll do that. what makes me upset is that when I refill that disposable plastic ink cartridge it's not a very "classy moment." So ultimate it doesn't matter that much.

I'm pretty sure that the included ink cartridge will last at least fifty years maybe even more than a hundred, since it can be refilled with pretty much ANY kind of ink; if you're clever. All you need is ink and a way to get it in there (syringe).

all in all

1.) I'm happy I'm getting a new pen

2.) I'm sad it was so expensive

3.) I'm upset it didn't come with a converter

4.) I'm happy it came with something to hold ink

5.) I'm happy it came with ink

6.) I'm ANGRY the object that came included to hold ink is nowhere near as luxurious or as beautiful as the pen.

7.) give me some baby back baby back baby back ribs ❤️❤️

Hmmm, can I have some of what you're smoking?    ;)

Not if you work for any Governmental agency.

It would probably be a termination qualifier.

Except the Chinese ones. I've yet to see a Chinese c/c pen which doesn't come with a converter included.

Is this their standard practice? To only update their website after they've sold a few? Seems like a very antiquated way of doing things.

Hi sciumbasci,

That's not a Chinese brand; it's really British, believe it or not. Albeit, a low tier brand.
