This AM I compared the two 1942 51's with a Flighter WS 601. I terms of scratchiness, all about the same. The 42's seem a little more medium or laid down more ink. My point is that there is not a lot of difference on the same two  paper type I have on the desk this morning.

I've carried the WS for a couple of months beside a P45 ballpoint. I see nothing that tells me this pens metal is going to not age well.

I think if Parker had reintroduced a repackaged WS Flighter 601 it would have been a hit with new and old FP users.

It looks very nice!

There is available, BTW, a metal section. I am not interested since the original Parker Flighter was black plastic.

Hi,

Do you know who sells the metal section?  I saw that in a video and found it perfect for that pen.

Hi Aysedasi,

I know; that pains me, too. I would have loved a fine/medium stub offering; something akin to Esterbrook's Journaling nib by Gena.

But being a large conglomerate; they're going with the textbook conglomerate nib choices. :(

Yes, sadly so Sean.  I'll be interested to know how 'wide' the medium turns out to be, I suspect not as wide as British medium P51 nibs usually are.  It's a real sticking point for me.  If there was just an ordinary broad, I might well pull the trigger on a steel nibbed offering, out of curiosity, but an oblique or stub would be even better.  I'm not going to hold my breath though.  It's like trying to find a broad nib for my Cross Peerless, if you're not Mr or Mrs 'enforced average', it's just not worth them making different nibs it seems.

I bought the  pen and the section (despite the fact that I don't like fine nibs or metal sections!).  It's actually a nice pen, seems well made.  Another of my 'curiosity' purchases.

I did the same, although in my case it was "this looks like an interesting filing system, even though I hate hooded nibs." Now it's one of my favorite pens, and I have hooded nibs all over the place. :)

and the c/c is an extra cost.

Am I correct in assuming that the converter for the modern Duofold will fit the new 51? I think they are about $10; I had to buy one for an Aurora Ipsilon that came without a converter. It should have been included, though.

For love of it. And yet not waste time either.

Hi Corgi,

Yes. I would think so. IIRC, the old slide converters should fit, too. (I've got dozens of those from 45s).

Hi all,

The release should be in short order now; Pen Chalet released this video today:

Excellent! I have a black steel nib Medium on order from Pen Chalet, so hopefully it means they will be shipping soon. I have an extra Parker twist converter waiting and ready to load up some Platinum Blue-Black or Diamine Blue-Black (probably).

That video makes the teal one look awfully nice, though.

The new 51 in the Fahrney's catalog looks like the Sonnets and I imagine the slide converter would work.  The Parkers look pretty similar.

That has been my experience as well.

That's correct as, as far a Is remember, it was Parker's policy, when they eventually introduced converters, to make them all compatible for all Parker pens onwards.

While different Parker converters can differ on design features or quality they are all interchangeable.

All the best is only beginning now...

For Currently produced converters probably yes. History they had the squeeze type in slim and fat. The fat ones fit the 45, 75 etc but not the slim pens like the 180. But the fatter ones held more ink. My favourites.

Hi #6,

I know.

I took the teal because I've always loved aqua/teal colors and I have a Jotter I got in the '70s that's the same color - or really close.

Now, I'm sitting here wondering if I should get a Midnight Blue one, too - or just forget all my inhibitions and get a Plum Deluxe set. 🤠🥳💥

Maybe the Deluxe will include a converter.
